Taylor, Taylor and Hobson was a scientific instrument manufacturer that manufactured the "Cooke Triplet" camera lens. It would evolve to specialise in precision engineering with a focus on optical lenses, engraving machines and tools for measurement in manufacturing.
Founded 4th April, 1886 by Thomas Smithies Taylor and his brother William, the company was initially based in Slate Street, Leicester, and subsequently moved to the Stoughton Street Works, Leicester. In 1893 they began manufacturing the ‘Cooke Triplet’ lens, which reduced chromatic aberration to a minimum.
