About me
[edit]My name is Bevelyn Tuazon. I was born in raised in the Philippines. I came to America in 2003. I am happily married and a mother of two beautiful kids. I am working in a medical field with 15 years of experience as a medical assistant. I am currently enrolled at Everett Community College taking pre-nursing. I love listening to ballad music and watching Korean drama. My favorite thing to do is hiking. I have been hiking since 2015 and I have hiked for over 200 mountains here in Pacific Northwest. Hiking is a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, particularly if your route includes some hills, which will force your heart to work harder.[1]
My Wikipedia Interest
[edit]My interest in Wikipedia started because of my English Instructor. I would like to explore more about hiking. I like searching and reading articles about hiking, the importance of it and how it will benefit your health, your spirit and your soul.
Article evaluation
[edit]I have been interested in cross stitch for some time. This has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was in college. I had made a cross stitch of an image of Queen Elizabeth for which I received lots of compliments. I visited Wikipedia's page thinking that it has the best coverage and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: Structure/Completeness, its lack of citations, and its lack of reliable sources.
Structure/Completeness
[edit]I have noticed in the history section that there is no mention where cross stitch originated. It is known that cross stitch embroidery flourished during the Tang dynasty in China (618-907AD)) but it originated in England in the 16th century ( http://juliesxstitch.com/history-of-cross-stitch) This was very important information that should have been included in the article. Also, in the section titled "Cross Stitch and Feminism" the author emphasized on feminist design, themes and patterns, but made no mention of male cross stitchers. In fact, the world's largest cross stitch was made by a man named Peter Volna, ( https://lordlibidan.com/world-record-breaking-cross-stitch/).This was a very interesting fact which can encourage men to be involved in cross stitching.
Citations
[edit]The section titled "Related Stitches and forms of Embroidery" completely lacks any citations and portion of the article needed more citations for verification. This goes on to the rest of the article where citations are needed but it's not the sources. It was difficult to verify the content of an article when there was no citation for the information given. It also used its own subheading as a source instead of citing the real source.
Lack of Reliable Sources
[edit]There were lots of references in the page, but I found helpful information not included in the article. There are over ten types of cross stitch. It only mentioned four or five types in the article. The author described the different types of cross stitch but failed to refer to or cite the website about the specific types of cross stitch.
Summary
[edit]Overall, I found the article to be okay. The scope of information provided still painted the background and touched on the important aspects of cross stitch. Multiple paragraphs throughout the article were incomplete or lacking citation and some only had a few sources. Although the article has few sources and provided incomplete information, it could be a great help for people who cross stitch.
