North Dakota Legislative Assembly v. Burgum, was an original jurisdiction 2018 North Dakota Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled that four out of five of Governor Doug Burgum's line item vetoes of various appropriations made by the North Dakota Legislative Assembly were ineffective. The Court also ruled that the Legislative Assembly unconstitutionally encroached upon executive authority in another bill. The case marked the first time in which the North Dakota Supreme Court was asked to resolve a lawsuit in which the executive and legislative branches of government were opposing parties.
