I thouhgt the rule is to only list most major junctions in infobox. This rule applies to California State Highways. For ex. on SR-91 in CA we can only list the I-605, I-5, and I-15 on routebox. Don't different states have different rules, and also on SR-39 in CA we can only list the I-5 and I-10, I thought every routes in US applies the same rule. And also, isn't User:Master Son an admin? Don't you get paid working on Wiki because I don't get paid. Don't admin get money send home from contribs on Wiki?--Freewayguy (Webmails) 01:19, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Right, I understand that, but from what I understand the rules to be, Interstates can only have other interstates (which you forgot I-375 in your trim-down, BTW), unless having US Routes keeps the jct list below 10 jcts, the maximum allowed, in which case they can be included. Maybe I'm wrong, I have been before, but that's my understanding of the rules for infoboxes.
- I'm not quite sure about Master Son because I've only worked with him maybe once or twice here on WP. However, I don't get paid (and if there's money to be had, how do I get it?) nor do I know why you even brought that up (if you're trying to infer I'm somehow related to Master Son, I'm not...never met him and wouldn't even know what he looked like if he punched me in the face; friendly advice, if that's what you're trying to infer, be very careful accusing people of being sock puppets when they're not...it causes a lot of drama that's not needed. And no, I'm not an admin, nor do I want the responsibility. But, if neither of those were what you were trying to infer, let me know so I know what you're asking).
- Irregardless of whatever point you were trying to make there, that's how I interpret it, so if something's changed, please find me something so I know how to proceed in the future. Thanks! EaglesFanInTampa 14:03, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello EaglesFanInTampa and let me begin by saying I agree with you concerning the McGuire Air Force Base and Current Events and of course your on-going edit war with 132.18.128.6 However, if you do not mind too much, I would like to invoke IAR and say; One, this information does no harm. Two, it does add to the article. Three; It is informative, and could honestly see this separating Wikipedia from the normal encyclopedia, in that we, versus paper print products, can bring up-to-date information, to the public. Hope you understand my reasoning not to revert 132.18.128.6 edits. Thanks. ShoesssS Talk 20:14, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there. I understand your reasons behind letting it go, and I'm willing to just let some other editor deal with it and move on with my day. However, there's some things we need to realize w/this IP and what they're doing. From their talk page, it appears they have made some not-so-constructive edits in the past. I shouldn't assume that, especially since it's an IP, what happened before is the intent they want to do it with now, but it's something to consider. Also, while I understand your argument about the flexibility of Wikipedia and how it's online so it can be up-to-date, if we allow "Upcoming Events" advertisements (it's nothing more than that, wouldn't you agree?) we'd have to allow every article that deals with a place to announce their parades, bake sales, and bingo nights, wouldn't we? I agree with you that we shouldn't be a stickler on the rules (Lord knows I'm not), but there needs to be some boundaries, and I feel that allowing something like this could snowball in a direction we don't need to head. Like I said, I don't care anymore what happens on that page, but I wanted to let you know why I feel what I was doing was right. Thanks nonetheless for your input and have a fantastic day! EaglesFanInTampa 20:33, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey EaglesFanInTampa, by the way - Hopefully next year!. as I said in my opening remarks, I understand and agree on your points. To be honest, that is why I have not got involved, and just watched from the sidelines :-). I guess I just wanted to feel important today and see if we thought about everything. Take care and thank you for the well wishes. ShoesssS Talk 20:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Phillies WikiProject...?
[edit]I do support the Phillies because they're a Philadelphia team, but my overall interest in baseball is not enough for me to get involved in this WikiProject. I don't think I'd do a poor job if I did contribute to it, but I think WikiProjects are best served and well edited when the contributors are passionate about the topic, not just so-so interested in it. I'm pretty active on the college basketball project, so for now I think that's what I'm going to generally stick to. Thanks anyway though. Jrcla2 (talk) 21:14, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Phightin or Fightin
[edit]As you suggested, I have sourced my claim that the correct spelling of the Phillies' nickname is "Fightin". My sources are listed on the Phillies talk page. I really don't want to fight (or phight) with you on this issue. I'm sure you are a dedicated Phillies fan (as am I). The revision is strictly academic and has nothing to do with any personal bias. Thank you. Also I think a PhilliesWiki would be great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.110.235.140 (talk) 16:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
What's your deal? If anybody has a vendetta it's you. I mean, really, do you think it is at all possible that you might be wrong in this instance? I have a flyer from 1976 that says "Celebrate the bicentennial with the Fightin' Phils. I have also have a copy of the song "The Fightin' Phils" on 45, like the record on sale in eBay that I linked to (it's a crappy song, Phillies Fever is better---marginally). I have a Fightin' Phils t-shirt (similar to the one I linked to, but older) that I got at the Vet on fan appreciation day about a decade ago. Search the Daily News/Inquirer archive and you will turn up hundreds of articles where the team is referred to as the Fightin's. Type in "Phightin's" and you will get exactly 9 hits. If that's too local, go to NewsLibrary.com which sources 2052 news titles across the country. Type in "Fightin' Phillies" and you will get 916 hits. Enter "Phightin' Phillies" and you'll get 50. --Thefestooner (talk) 20:00, 9 April 2008 (UTC)70.110.235.140
To deal with the above issue...
[edit]We would have to get the page semi-protected by an admin. I'll see what I can do. Killervogel5 (talk) 16:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, the IP lied to you, because he changed the edits back and did NOT source them on the main page, just on the talk. Killervogel5 (talk) 16:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I applied that page for temporary semi-protection today at 1:02 EST. Killervogel5 (talk) 17:03, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Do you think we should take the step to get this mediated? We really can't change anything until we do. Killervogel5 (talk) 13:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- I would say that the noble thing to do is to put all the spellings up there until we can get a mediator involved informally from the Mediation Cabal. The protection on the article has expired, so the other party will be free to continue making and reverting your edits if he continues to disagree. I will notify him via his IP talk page when I ask for mediation. Killervogel5 (talk) 14:06, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
- There he goes again, I'm dropping it on mediators right now. Killervogel5 (talk) 20:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I received a message from EaglesFanIn Tampa saying my edit of the Phillies article is vandalism. I thought the point of having an online encyclopedia is to present the public with accurate sourced information. When I first edited the article you were condescending, the second time you were even more condescending and said that my edits were unsourced. I sourced them and still my changes were an issue. It is apparent at this point that it's two against one. EaglesFan said that the recent edits were neutral---how can have neutrality on an issue where there is only one accurate side. EaglesFan's sources are a City Paper (Phila area weekly) blog and MLB.com affiliated fan blog. I have sourced and can provide evidence of oficial Phillies memorabilia that say Fightin---stuff going back sixty years. So what I can't understand is how my edits are vandalism but the reversions are cool. Whoever the mediators are I hope they understand that central point. It seems EaglesFan keeps making this an issue (and Killervogel seems to back his opinion) because I had the audacity to change something he contributed. EaglesFan has yet to communicate with me to point out based on evidence presentd by both parties why he is right and I am wrong. he has yet to comment on the evidence I have produced. So far all I've gottenis warnings and snooty remarks. What is the deal? --Thefestooner (talk) 20:58, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Thefestooner

Rays' Attendance
[edit]It was just odd to me that a Yankee game didn't get many more people than the Angels game I went to last Friday. It kills me that I can't go very much because I live inbetween Ocala and Orlando. I just feel bad because I'm such a huge fan, but I have no job and no way to pay for the tickets, gas to get there, and the food. I've got some free tickets from the "fandemonium" thing they did last year, but they're only good for the last week in this month. Otherwise, I have to keep begging my friend who's hardly a baseball fan to take me, because I know she has a large source of income for someone under 20. They're good! The Rays are finally good, and I still can't go see them everyday like I would like to do, just because I live a good distance outside the area. Tampabay721 (talk) 21:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
PARd participants list
[edit]As discussed at WT:USRD, the participants list at WP:USRD is being split by state. Since your name has multiple states next to it, "PA" has been removed from your name the large USRD-wide table, and your name has been added to the PA-specific table. This is part of the lengthy process. If this is in error, please let me know immediately. Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 05:31, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Hockey at Tropicana Field
[edit]Hi!
I'm doing some research for the German Wiki and have got a question regarding Tropicana Field. Has the ice rink at the stadium been discarded after the Lightening moved to Ice Palace? Or is there still the possibility to play hockey at Tropicana Field? As far as I know, the Tropicana-Lightning relationship has only been a temporary solution. I saw that you are interested in the stadium and in hockey7other sports, so perhaps you are able to help me. thx, Fabi --84.168.202.207 (talk) 09:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
The team was always called the 'Rays by many sportwriters and broadcasters. I thought the team only took out "Devil" in changing the logo, just like the Toronto Blue Jays logo reads "Jays". I've always referred to them by the full name, but if the team is trying to change its name altogether, I'll have a hard time getting used to saying "Rays" instead of "Devil Rays" since both refer to the same team. –BuickCenturyDriver 07:50, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

haha, sorry I didn't go see you. I was sitting up there and by the 2nd inning I just said to hell with it and ventured down to Right Field without any problem from ushers or security, but it was crowded as hell down there. WHAT A GAME!!!! Too bad for Percival again, but Howell is the MAN! I bet Papelbon was twiddling his thumbs in revenge all night. Tampabay721 (talk) 08:04, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that rain was crazy. Of course I stepped in a puddle that seemed like it was a foot deep so that I have to throw my shoes in the dryer now. [edit]The Baseball WikiProject Newsletter Issue I – July 2008
This month's newsletter was designed and written by Wizardman, jj137, and Blackngold29. If you would like to contribute to future newsletters, please contact the Baseball WP outreach dept. |
Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29 |

Re: St. Pete
[edit]Glad you like my maps. Most of the N/S/E/W stuff came about via analysis of the addresses shown in Google Earth. Those suggested an E vs W. I put that onto Central (I think by itself) as it looked like north of 3rd SW or so, some E addresses were showing up in GE next to the bay. St. Pete does have one of the more complex layouts I have seen. That doesn't help.
The images are SVGs. If you have Inkscape, you should be able to make corrections yourself. However, if you do that, watch out for the text on paths. (I don't know if those maps had any off hand.) Due to bugs in MediaWiki/RSVG and some Firefox versions, those text objects had to be converted to paths. This means they can't be edited as is. If you make changes, please follow the steps below to preserve them correctly.
- Look for the latest version with text on paths
- Download that into you SVG editor.
- Make your changes and save that version
- Upload as is
- Select all of the text objects on paths
- Convert them to paths; In Inkscape, this is on the Node Editor Tool Control Bar and in the Path menu—Look for "Object to Path"
- Upload the new version; Be sure to add a note telling future editors to use the previous version and why
- Undo the Object to Path step for all the objects you changed and save (Skip this if you don't want to keep your own copy)
I provide those steps as you know the changes that need to be made. Will (Talk - contribs) 09:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

The Reboot of Wikiproject New Jersey has certainly stirred up some new activity at the project. Discussion on several improvements and new initiatives have been going on at the talk page. There has been an involved discussion regarding our 118 unassessed articles, especially those on municipalities. The current goal is to review and assess all 566 New Jersey muncipality articles by September 30. A suggestion has been made to intiate Wikipedia Takes New Jersey to begin clearing the large backlog of articles needing photos. Let's all grab our cameras and head out into the vast wilds of the Garden State. Town Halls, High Schools, Historic Places - every article deserves a picture. |

The redesign has been well received. There are still some things left to do. This newsletter was one big check mark off the list. Hopefully this can be continued on a regular basis. There are literally thousands of articles in Category:New Jersey that have not been tagged as part of the project, and stub sorting hasn't been run in 10 months. We will need to identify some friendly bot operators to help with these projects. An outreach department (which includes the newsletter) needs to be formalized. Creating an invitation template for easy placement on userpages will also be part of that effort.
There are lots of best practices described at the WikiProject Council with ideas of how to make our project more responsive, welcoming, active, and effective. Task forces? Peer review? Other ideas welcome! |

Editor's Notes | |||
I just wanted to say that the response to my bold makeover of WPNJ has been gratifying, but nothing will improve the project as much as more activity, and that means more members. There are lots of things to do in this new setup, and everyone with an interest should be able to find a way to contribute to the collaboration. I want to thank you all for the patience, the appreciation, and the effort. - Jim Miller

Orphaned non-free media (Image:TBDR Logo cropped.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:TBDR Logo cropped.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

On 2008 American League Division Series...
[edit]As a general rule of thumb, especially in all post-season events in sports, the site is listed by the home team's area, even though the Tampa Bay Rays play in St. Petersburg, it is listed as "At Tampa Bay", not "At St. Petersburg", as akin to having the Detroit Pistons (or Shock) playing in Auburn Hills, they are listed "At Detroit". Therefore, the edit was reverted. I hope you understand this motus operandi, okay? NoseNuggets (talk) 6:08 PM US EDT Sept 27 2008
- Then again, the same could be said about the Dallas Cowboys being in Irving (and in 2009 in Arlington), the Detroit Lions being in Pontiac from 1975 until 2001 or the Cleveland Cavaliers and Barons in Richfield, Ohio... NoseNuggets (talk) 7:49 PM US EDT Sept 27 2008.

Take a look at the chart to see how the growth of WPNJ compares to some of our peer projects. Please remember to place the {{WikiProject New Jersey}} tag on the talk pages of any New Jersey related articles you create or come across. You can also add the new articles page to your watchlist. Some updates have been made to the NJ Portal, but much more needs to be done. If a few volunteers can put together Featured Article summmaries, we can automate rotating the portal content. See the New Jersey section of the bot results to recommend a production version. The process ends on October 20, and then a bot will select an appropriate version if none has been recommended. |

Both Jon Corzine and The Sopranos were promoted to Good Article status in the past month. No WikiProject New Jersey articles were promoted to Featured article status. Battle of Trenton was not listed as a Featured Article, and may need more editors to complete the remaining work to be promoted. Also, in an item that was missed last month, Thomas Edison was delisted as a Good Article in July.
The WPNJ Assessment Drive is ongoing. Please help assess all of the articles about places in New Jersey. There are currently 118 articles that have not been assessed. |

Editor's Notes | |||
Fall has arrived, and with it will come a rush of new Wikipedians. Inviting new editors to join WPNJ is easy to do, and can help us improve our New Jersey articles. Keep an eye out for editors who work on NJ articles who can help the project. The Wikipedia Release version project is in its final stages for the next version. Take a look at the article lists, cleanup where you can, and nominate articles that should be included on the DVD version of WP. Lets make sure that those who end up with a downloaded copy of WP get solid articles about New Jersey. - Jim Miller

Semi-Protection
[edit]Looking at Wikipedia:Rough guide to semi-protection, I don't think we meet the criteria at the moment to get the Rays temporarily protected, but I sure would like to in advance since I see a lot of traffic coming to the article in the near future... Tampabay721 (talk) 20:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
You think we need just the main article protected or several of the related ones? And no, I was not at the game, which was probably good anyway because I would have thrown up about 50 times and that would have been no fun. haha Tampabay721 (talk) 00:30, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is where you need to go if you want to give it a shot, but IMO man, I don't think they're going to do anything about it... Tampabay721 (talk) 00:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

A new bot is patrolling Wikipedia workflows to let WPNJ members know when any of our articles may be in need of attention. Any article tagged with the WPNJ banner that has been added to one of the major workflows (AfD, FAC, GAN, etc.) will be added to a new project page. The bot runs daily, so add the new Article Alerts page to your watchlist, or just check the main project page to see the updates. See the Article Alerts project page for details on how the bot works and which processes it covers. | The following articles may be in need of attention:

New Jersey on the Main Page | Help Wanted
No, not the state - the battleship! On October 15, USS New Jersey (BB-62) was the Featured Article on the Wikipedia main page. Featured articles receive heavier traffic when they are on the main page. Improving WPNJ articles to featured status can help drive more editors to our project. |

Seems like a pretty light month in terms of activity at WPNJ. Personally, your editor was doing a lot of travelling and went on a wiki-free vacation for nine days. Time to dive back in and create some new NJ articles. - Jim Miller See me | Touch me

Semi-Protected
[edit]I have semi-protected your talk page after more nonsense from the college nerds. If you don't want it, just leave me a message on my talk page or ask for unprotection at WP:RFPP. Horologium (talk) 01:10, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- LOL, thanks. Talk about taking a frat prank too far. I'm not worried about any IPs finding me; there's 4 million people here in the Bay Area, and the chances of isolating me are pretty slim. Besides, even if they did, do you really think they'd physically attack me because they can't screw up a website anymore? C'mon, they may be heathens, but I'll give them more (only a minute amount, mind you) credit than that. EaglesFanInTampa 02:01, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Peer review limits
[edit]The guidelines for Wikipedia:Peer review ask that editors nominate no more than one article per day (and four total at any one time). While the rules say that one of the requests can be removed, I will let it slide since this is the first time. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks; I missed the part about "one a day" - must be my selective reading skills. Marry Christmas, and thanks again! EaglesFanInTampa 13:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Glad you liked my comments. I think trying to provide context for the reader is always useful, so pointing out interesting things in the list in the lead does that. Not sure if there are free photos of the award winners, but if there are maybe some of those could be used too. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:29, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
