Edward J. Zipprich

Edward Joseph Zipprich (Born April 18, 1960) is an American Democratic Party politician from New Jersey, who serves on the Red Bank, New Jersey Borough Council and is currently the President of the New Jersey Stonewall Democrats.

Personal life and Education

Zipprich was born in Staten Island, New York and raised in the community of Great Kills, where he attended catholic schools. His mother, Jean Marie Murphy, was a pharmacist and his father Bernard worked as a photoengraver and printer. Zipprich grew up in the family printing business and graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School.

Zipprich attended the State University of New York College at Brockport and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication and English in 1983.

Prior to being elected to the Council, Zipprich served on the Red Bank Planning Board and the Red Bank Historic Preservation Commisssion. He has been an advocate for Smart Growth development and Historic Preservation. He championed the Washington Street Historic District designation and helped secure grant money to produce the Historic element to the Red Bank Master Plan. After his election, Zipprich returned to the Planning Board as Council representative and is the liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission and the Borough's Shade Tree Committee.

Zipprich worked in New York City for over 20 years as a Purchasing Manager and Director of Operations for various international law firms including Sullivan & Cromwell and Debevoise & Plimpton. While living in Staten Island in the 1990s, Zipprich and a group of concerned citizens successfully petitioned the New York City Planning Commission to downzone their neighborhoods to prevent the overdevelopment and destruction of single family neighborhoods in Great Kills and Eltingville.

After moving to New Jersey with his spouse, JP Nicolaides, Zipprich worked in retail and for Weight Watchers International. He also serves as Chair of Monmouth County Democracy for America, the nations largest grassroots political organization founded by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, and on the executive committee of the Red Bank Borough Education Foundation, as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Count Basie Theater, as president of the New Jersey Stonewall Democrats and was elected in 2010 as Chair of the Red Bank Democratic Municipal Committee. Councilman Zipprich served as a delegate to the 2012 DNC convention and in 2016 served as NJ Assist Whip at the DNC convention in Philadelphia, PA.
