Polo Da A Baby

[edit]

Antonio Raekwon Tyson[1] (born February 12, 2000), known professionally as Polo Da A Baby, is an American rapper. He is making waves in the music scenes of Atlanta and Florida. With an impressive discography that includes projects like From The Root[2], Finals MVP[3], Tropics of Hell[4], along with numerous singles, Polo has garnered over 5 million plays across streaming platforms. When he dropped the mixtape Tropics of Hell he spawned his first hit song with "Fake Friends[5]." From there he chose to stay independent and moved back home to Florida where he linked up with fellow rapper AFK Favoo and produced the song "Blick for Blick"[6] which peaked 97 on Apple Music[7] Top 100: USA Playlist.

Polo Da A Baby is recognized for his versatility, refusing to be boxed into a single genre of rap. His track “Kali[8]” showcases an upbeat, melodic style, while “Going Hard[9]” and “444[10]” highlight his sharp lyricism and clever punchlines. In his project Finals MVP[11], tracks like “Back On[12],” “Wassup with Me[13],” and “Shooters[14]” reveal his grit and resilience, as he raps, traps music in his melodies, commanding attention with every line. He went on to win artist showcases for up and coming rappers in the surrounding cities in Florida and Georgia. Polo Da A Baby performed songs like "Mr. HIM", "Make it out" and "Gun Talk" (unreleased songs) which propel him to the top of the judges' score cards.

Early Life

[edit]

Born February 12, 2000 in Gwinnett County[15], Atlanta, GA[16], Polo’s journey took a pivotal turn when he moved to the Westside of Jacksonville, FL[17] at a young age. Raised by his mother alongside eight siblings, where he moved all throughout the state. His mother decided to settle down in a small town outside of Jacksonville in a city known as Starke[18], his upbringing was a blend of challenges and experiences that would fuel his artistry. This dynamic environment allowed Polo to draw inspiration from the diverse cultures and communities he encountered as he moved throughout the state.

He would eventually meet his lifelong friend Ahmon Jefferson, and the two would start a local street affiliation known as My Brothers Keeper(Initialized MBK). He would soon find himself in and out of trouble when he was raided and searched for possession of a stolen firearm at Bradford High School[19] and later found not guilty on all related charges. Soon afterwards he would be on the News4Jax[20] for a violent fight between races of students that involved both students and parents of different races brawling with each other at the end of the day. He would eventually graduate from his high school.

While he was born in Atlanta, GA he is known more for being a rapper of Florida as he says that's his origin or memories and life in a rap interview conducted by RapDen[21].

Musical Style

[edit]

Polo Da A Baby music has been categorized as too versatile to be pinned to just one genre by an article in rap Genius[43] article, however he is closely related to trap music with a harmonic melody.

One of the standout features of Polo’s rap style is his versatile flow and cadence. He effortlessly transitions between different tempos and vibes, which keeps his tracks engaging and dynamic. His use of auto-tune adds a layer of harmonic melody to his hard trap beats, enabling him to create catchy hooks that complement his more aggressive verses. Lyrically, he brings depth to his music through metaphoric punchlines and thoughtful lyrics. He balances a gritty delivery with wordplay, allowing him to convey personal experiences and broader societal themes. This duality enriches his songs, giving listeners layers to unpack beyond the catchy melodies

In 2023 a music critic wrote in Rapper Weekly that Polo "I could feel the emotion and pain he definitely is gifted. He possesses the talent.".[44]

Polo Da A Baby has frequently been described as a Dirty South Trap Rapper. In an interview he is closely compared as a mixture of having the peak flow and lyrics of Atlanta rappers and the delivery and punchlines of Florida rappers.
