Six members of the Huntsville Hawks were named to the PFL all-star football team this week. Offensively there are guard Jim Dyar, center Haylon McCollough, tackle Dick Schafroth and halfback Tom Bryan. George Patton was the defensive end and Allen Green voted top kicking specialist.

A couple of Jacksonville State gridders have signed to play football with the Huntsville Hawks for the coming season. They are Robert Kelly and Ray Vinson. Vinson led Joliet, Ill., in interceptions last season but the club will not operate this season. It is reported that salaries this fall will be below last year in the minor league despite the strike for higher wages by the parent NFL. It is reported that players in the league in which Huntsville belongs cannot receive over $200 per game, which is far below what some received a year ago.

Huntsville's Hawks carried a 3-0 record to Oklahoma City to face the Dallas Cowboy affiliate in a Professional Football League game. Marv Matuszak's warriors bit the dust, by some 41-24. They're hoping to have things straightened out before tomorrow when they collide with Des Moines on Iowa ground. They return home Sept. 30 to face the Quad-Cities (Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline, Ill.) Raiders. And incidentally, the Hawks will celebrate the Tri-Cities Night at the same time with several of out outstanding citizens slated to be recognized at intermission. Muscle Shoals' band is expected to be on hand to help do the affair up right. Kickoff time will be 8 p.m. in Milton Frank Stadium.

A 1956 graduate of Huntsville High School, Mr. Bishop attended classes at UAH and retired from Chrysler Corp. after 32 years. As an avid sportsman, Walter fished the regional waters, both recreationally and professionally, hunted the fields and waterways of North Alabama, played baseball with a host of regional baseball programs in the 1960s, played football with the Huntsville Rockets and Alabama Hawks in the 1960s, played golf all over the Southeast in various tournaments and played basketball in various industrial leagues around the area.
