Work started on the building of Stamford College in the 1960's on land previously used as allotments.

The western boundary of the site was a public rights of way via a footpath from Melbourne Road to Drift Road; to the north is Drift Road and to the south land bordering on Ryhall Road; whilst to the east the site narrows to land used for Sheltered Housing.
