He is an Associate Research Scientist and Team Leader in the Medical Genomics Research Department at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Early Life and Education Dr. Umair was born on June 16, 1988, in Peshawar, Pakistan. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, with a dissertation titled "Clinical and Genetic Characterization of Human Hereditary Skeletal Deformities in Consanguineous Families". His doctoral research included a six-month fellowship at the Technical University Munich, Germany, under the International Research Support Initiative Program (IRSIP).

Research Contributions Dr. Umair has made significant contributions to human genetics, particularly in the identification of 22 novel genes associated with rare genetic disorders. His research has been published in 175 peer-reviewed articles, and he is the editor of the book "Rare Genetic Disorders: Advancements in Diagnosis and Treatment". His expertise includes: Dr. Umair currently leads two projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborates on nine projects as Co-PI, with a total funding value exceeding USD 5 million.
