DOX Centre for Contemporary Art http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_art, is an independent non-profit private iniziative. The mission of Dox is to present and advance contemporary art in the context of issues that are changing today’s world.
The DOX Centre was initiated in 2002 by Leoš Válka, along with several partners (Robert Aafjes, Richard Fuxa and Václav Dejčmar). The goal of this initiative is to serve the wider public by creating a living arts centre, becoming a platform for the exhibition of Czech and international contemporary art. In October 2008, DOX opened its doors to the public.
DOX is located in the Holešovice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holesovice 7 district http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prague_7 of Prague http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prague, arguably the city’s most dynamic quarter, and one that is undergoing major revitalization. Its proximity to the city center, the combination of former industrial buildings and housing, and the mix of residential and commercial developments make Holešovice a leading candidate for a new centre in Prague. The complex combines rebuilt industrial structures from the early 20th century, originally a metal sheet factory, with new structures, linking the site’s history with is new function.
Architect Ivan Kroupa’s project combines rebuilt industrial structures from the early 20th century with new structures, linking the site’s hystory with its new function.
