The organochlorine PCP (pentachlorophenol C6Cl5OH) is a wood preservative biocide.

PCP is a polychlorinated aromatic: A 6-membered benzene ring with 5 Chlorines and a Hydroxide

Degradation

PCP is degraded by some bacteria, including Sphingobacterium chlorophenolicum [1]

PCP → TCHQ → TriCHQ → DCHQ → 2,4-dichloro-3-hydroxy-cis,cis-muconic semialdehyde
