Not Vandalism

It's chronological accuracy - when talking about Padme's lifetime you dont use a term which was coined after her death. As for the rest of the vandalism that wasnt my intention - for some reason i was looking at old version of the page when i made my edit - i would have fixed my blunder but didnt remember in time - for which i apologise. I am an Administrator and wiki veteran so please dont disrespect me in future. PMA 08:24, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

I've been kicking around that idea for a while, since the majority of horror-related articles are somewhat lacking. I'm not sure if there's need/interest, since most "horror" crosses over with other WikiProjects (e.g. WP:FILM, WP:NOVEL), but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Jabba the Hutt rewrite

Nice work on the Jabba the Hutt rewrite! I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I've been working to rewrite a lot of the Star Wars articles to draw more of a connection to the "real world", instead of merely the Star Wars universe. Halloween III

I went back to the passage we just hammered out and was going to make a change but saw your edits. I'm not sure from the edits if the other "few brief scenes" from Halloween appear somehwere esle in the film or if they are a few brioef scenes appearing in the commercial for Halloween. If the latter, here's my suggested text:

In fact, the only nod to the previous films appearing in Halloween III is a television commercial appearing in the film itself, advertizing that an airing of Halloween will occur on Halloween night in which a few brief scenes from Halloween are shown.

Horror Wikiproject

I'd like to contribute to the horror wikiproject yes, but the majority of my time is taken up writing for a music website called Rockdetector, interviewing bands and . I can make minor contributions though. I know how you feel about being burnt out, I get that too. I'd just take your time. How come your articles seem to zillions of references? It's real professional. Are there sites you commonly use? If so feel free to divulge.

I feel that horror fiction lags behind horror in film on wiki and is something that could be addrssed, though since I've never contributed to a wiki article on a book I wouldn't know how to address this.

Although Halloween is a featured article, it doesn't have a star by the side which all others do. Just find that odd that's all. On the Halloween II page you could mention Rick Rosenthal went on to direct Halloween : Resurrection.

With those Halloween movies... if you own them on DVD listen to the commentaries, they'll help, and with A Nightmare on Elm Street. Mentions where the boiler room scenes were filmed on the commentary to that one and stuff. I'm glad you've largely avoided a trivia sectionm, they always feel tacky - it's always best to mould that information into the article.

If the Halloween films are your favourites then cool, though if it's just to improve the horror presence it could be better to place them in order of importance, like doing films such as Friday the 13th, Evil Dead etc. LuciferMorgan 23:28, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I'm a big fan of what you've done with some of the Halloween articles like I previously mentioned. I wouldn't mind, in my own time, doing what you did to the Halloween articles to the odd horror film. I've never made a significant contribution to a film article though (only infoboxes really), so I find the idea daunting. Halloween III Advice (Only Minor)

This might sound silly, but try to trace down any places where "was" and "were" is used, and try to rephrase the sentences which use these. A general example below;

"He was going to the shop"

"He went to the shop"

I don't know if you notice the difference in the two similar sentences, but it's meant to illustrate how if you slightly rework a sentence it flows much better. This advice works across the board I feel LuciferMorgan 19:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

editing help

It's a difficult issue, and one that strikes at the heart of just how WP will improve the standard of its prose. Establishing a list of WPians who are skilled at copy-editing would be very helpful, but I suspect that those people won't want to spend all of their time fixing up other people's prose. Establishing subject-based projects (there are already quite a few) might enable the co-opting of willing contributors who will copy-edit FACs before or during nomination.

I'm a professional editor, and heck, I give a lot of unpaid time to critiqueing FACs; this is my way of forcing the issue, and it appears to be having some success. The bottom line is that nominators just have to find ways of getting their text edited so that it's up to scratch. Occasionally I help, but usually only if I know the WPian or am interested in the topic. Neither applies here, sadly.

Have you tried posting nice messages on people's talk pages? Research the FAC archives and the history pages of good articles in this area; identify reviewers and contributors who've successfully worked on those articles; show that you know what they've done in your message on their page. That might help.

A good way of improving your own prose is to:

• display an earlier version of an FAC that you see has received complaints on the basis of Criterion 2a;
• read through the early version critically, trying to identify the faults,
• use the 'compare' function (on the 'history' page of the article) to compare that version with the final one in the FAC room, to identify what you missed.

But that doesn't solve the immediate issue, I know. You need to network in the community, establishing useful contacts in this respect.

Again, good work on that article. I'm not sure what the policy is regarding templates vs. categories, but I don't see any reason there shouldn't be both. A template often eliminates the "need" for a "see also" list. Unlike a category, it doesn't require any extra clicks to get to the links to related articles if a template is present. That's not to say that templates are always appropriate. So, to answer your question, it's not really necessary, but (I think) it doesn't violate policy and helps with navigation. That's just my $0.02, though. I'll look around and see if I can find any precendents. --Myles Long 21:43, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Brilliant work with Night of the Living Dead. You got any other horror films in your sights? I hope you put Night of the Living Dead up for peer review, and have it featured.

You should mention in Halloween (sorry I kinda consider it your baby) that Christopher Lee was originally offered the role of Dr. Loomis, but turned it down. Project updates Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements! WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas: An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style) Evolving lists into regular articles Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections) Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members More to come These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles. Things to do There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving! Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.

Article evolution As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort. For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article. Sounds confusing, eh? I'm just wondering, have you noticed the article for Dawn of the Dead? Truly bad with length, its 67kb and cites no refs no nothing. Hope you find the time to take the plunge and improve this article, even if its just to cut down its length by placing some of the info in sister articles. I'm in the very early stages of doing a rewrite for Nightmare on Elm Street, I'm hoping that goes fine, would be nice to get it to at least good article status. Halloween

I got the Lee / Loomis info from the 8 disc box set. It's on the extras as a readable bio of the film written by some renowned horror critic. Your NOFTLD work's amazing, there any other horror articles you're eyeing up to transform? I'm real interested to know...

I've always wanted to do something like you do with the Nightmare on Elm Street article, though cannot for the life of me find the time. I have to prepare for two band phone interviews at the moment, as I do voluntary work for a rock music website called www.rockdetector.com. I hope I find the time sometime soon. Quotes

I'm speaking about referencing. Once you know what you wish to quote from, how do you add it? Of course all the reference sources are then named under the "Notes" and "References" sections. Like say I wanted to say the Seattle Times said "blah blah blah" about a film and I actually knew the URL for this review, how would I be able to do this? Advice

Hey Dmoon, I was wondering if you could give some advice on Gremlins. I'm wondering about the prose in "Background": "Before the 1984 film, gremlins had already made a mark on popular culture. Children's author Roald Dahl had published a book called The Gremlins in 1943. Dante had read The Gremlins and claimed this book had been of some influence to Gremlins. Falling Hare, a film about the fictional character Bugs Bunny and a gremlin, had been released by Warner Bros., also in 1943." How many, in any, "had been"s should be changed to "was"? Also in "Casting", do you think that should be "Axton's voice earned him the role of the narrator, to establish some context for the story? What do you think of the new picture? I figured I should add something like that. Especially since the toy image might/should be removed- its copyright status has always had more jeers than cheers. Honestly, I hate the whole canon-non canon debate. Wikipedia isn't a fansite, so non-canon stuff doesn't belong. Witchfinder General

Greetings. Thank you for producing such excellent work in wikipedia. Your reshaping of the Night of the Living Dead article is truly extraordinary. I was wondering if you could take the time to look at my Witchfinder General article. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest British films (horror or otherwise) of the 1960's and I'd like some suggestions on how to get this listed as a Good Article. I don't believe a GA can be self-nominated. My own Tenebrae is a Featured Article so I know I will eventually have to go the Peer Review route, but I'd like to get Witchfinder assessed/rated right now if possible.
