Abbas Shiblak is an academic employed as a Research Associate at the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), University of Oxford and an advocate of human rights. [1]
Biography
[edit]Abbas Shiblak was born in Palestine in 1944 and moved to Britain in 1975. In 1987 he was given indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom. During the first Gulf War in 1991 he submitted an application to become a naturalized British citizen. On 17 January 1991 he was taken to Pentonville Prison to be deported. After a public campaign, Shiblak was released on the 6 February 1991. [2]
Publications
[edit]Shiblak founded the Palestinian Refugee and Diaspora Centre in Ramallah and also served as its first director. Shiblak was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the "Working Group on Refugees". [1]
Shiblak specializes in refugee-host country relationships and international humanitarian law. For the last few years he has been working on a paper on the topic of statelessness in the Arab region.[1]
