A common problem with articles or references to music groups involves whether a band name is treated as singular or plural based on the national variety of English. Editors, especially anonymous IPs, will tend to "fix" text to singular, when the plural wording is correct for the variety of English, most often on bands where British English is appropriate.
Note the following wordings:
Variety | Sample phrase (singular based name) | Sample phrase (plural based name) |
---|---|---|
American English, Canadian English | Rush is a Canadian rock band. | Backstreet Boys are a somewhat popular band. |
Australian English | The Beautiful Few is an Australian band. | Sick Puppies is an Australian rock band. |
British English | The Clash are a well-known band. | Broken Dolls are a British band. |
