Band History

[edit]

The Early Years (2005-2008)

The project was formed under the name "Antik" as a garage band in 2005 by guitarist Mike Keller, guitarist Blake Markowski and drummer Travis Markowski. In a short period of time, they recruited bassist Robby Sands to play in the band. During the band's development, Mike's friend Grayson Hurd (who attended highschool with Mike) expressed an interest in playing guitar in the band. In May 2006, the band decided to bring Grayson in on guitar with Mike, and decided to move Blake to the vocal position. This was technically the first full line-up for Park Lane.

In January 2007, the band decided to change their name after discovering that a well-established band in Colorado already called Antik had signed a deal to Drive-Thru Records. The band decided on "Park Lane," named after the street Mike lived on at the time and where the band held their practices. In February, the band entered The Project Studio in Sunnyvale, CA to record a 5 song demo. The band started playing shows in March and played a small handful of shows until June when they decided to part ways their vocalist.

Starting in June 2007, Park Lane began on a vocalist search that would last just over a year. First, bassist Robby left the band in June to go to college in Colorado (while the remaining members attended colleges in the area). While searching for a vocalist, the band came across Joe Calderon, who Mike and Grayson had seen play in Joe's former band "Ending Reason" in 2005. Joe originally tried out for vocalist but ended up landing the vacant bass spot while adding back-up vocalist after telling the band he also plays bass.

In January 2008, the band entered The Plant Studios in Sausalito, CA to record 4 instrumental tracks with engineer Mike Boden who has worked with artists such as Mudvayne, The Fray, Carrie Underwood, Journey, and Joe Satriani. The band used the 4 tracks to attract vocalists all over the country to audition. In June, Travis and the band decided that it was time to parts ways for him to pursue his career as a firefighter. Joe called Cameron Stucky, who he had jammed with before, and asked him to try out for the vacant drum position. Cameron joined the band that same month.

After nearly going through a whole list of 80 singers, the band auditioned Calvin Calloway as the last singer on that list. He rehersed with the band for 3 practices and then was offered the part as their vocalist.

Park Lane - EP (2009-2010)

In Decemeber 2008 Park Lane entered Sushifish Studios in Mission Valley, CA to record their self-titled EP with engineer Matty Reynolds, co-produced by Destroy The Runner guitarist Duane Reed. It took the band only 5 days to record the 4 song EP which was released on February 3rd, 2009. They played a wide variety of shows including shows with Sonny Moore, Emarosa, Our Last Night, Destroy The Runner. The band also played Tomfest with As I Lay Dying, Haste The Day, and Oh, Sleeper that summer.

In September the band decided to part ways with Joe as thier bass player due to creative differences and began searching for a new bass player. Only two weeks later, Clayton Wages answered the band's post for bass player auditions. Two practices later Clayton officially joined the band as Park Lane's bassist.

After playing a 2 week South West winter tour in December, the band released a new song "Breaking Point" as a digital single on February 2nd 2010, putting to use one of the 4 instrumental tracks recorded at The Plant Studios 2 years earlier.

Debut Record (2010 - Present)

In April 2010, Park Lane began pre-production on their debut record. The band selected producer Michael Rosen (Papa Roach, AFI) to helm the project. In May, the band entered Sharkbite Studios and Skyline Studios in Oakland, CA to beginning tracking for the record. By the end of June, all of the music had been recorded. The band decided to take a break from recording vocals to go on their summer tour and also to give Calvin more time to complete the album's vocal parts. The tour lasted from July 8th to August 11th. At the conclusion of the tour and after one vocal session since the band's return home, the group decided that they needed to continue on without Calvin as their vocalist. Park Lane embarked on a nation-wide singer search that would bring them hundreds of replies and vocal auditions through Novemeber. After two months of searching, the band decided to fly former Candiria singer Carley Coma out to Calfornia. Coma was offered the job as Park Lane's lead singer by the end of the weekend and in December 2010, it was announced that Carley Coma is officially the lead singer of Park Lane. Before entering the studio to record vocals for the record, the rest of band re-entered Sharkbite Studios in December to record six music new tracks that were written while the band was searching for a new singer. Carley, who lives in Brooklyn, NY, completed the vocals for the record in two separate trips during January and February 2011. Post production and mixing for the record lasted from March until the end of April. The record is scheduled to be mastered by UE Nastasi of Sterling Sound who has mastered albums for AC/DC, Killswitch Engage, Panic! At The Disco, Haste The Day, American Hi-Fi, Candiria and more. On May 8th, 2011, the band officially announced on their facebook that the new album will be titled: Letters From The Fire. The album is slated for a fall 2011 release.
