The history of Jews in Belgrade, Serbia, goes back over seven hundred years. There is evidence of Jewish presence in Belgrade from the 14th century onwards.

In 1521, the city was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and Jews began to flee to Belgrade due to Alhambra Decree of expulsion of Jews from Spain and Portugal. The Jews established a new neighborhood in the city, called Dorćol, and the Jews in Belgrade have gained a strong economic status. At the end of the 17th century, there were 800 Jews in the community.

In 1940, the Jewish community in Belgrade reached its peak. There were 12,000 Jews in Belgrade this was the biggest Jewish community in Yugoslavia these days.
