Frederick Welsh is a Canadian filmmaker and animator with an independent film company by the name; Dirty Downtown.
Films
[edit]Frederick makes several short films which are mostly thrillers, horrors and dramas. They are often quite violent. Frederick also works with rotoscope and flash animation.
Frederick has been working on a full length feature film script since the summer of 2006. The film is entitled Pure Imagination and a trailer has been released. Nothing about the plot has been released as of yet.
He is very interested in modifying Karl Pilkington's film idea spoken of in the promotional Fame podcast. He has said he wants to make the concept of the story more metaphorical, rather than making it realistic (as Karl made it out to be).
Music
[edit]Frederick has had a large history in music as well. He formed a band wentitled John Gushtaff and the Flying Assholes, John Gushtaff being Frederick's alias. The group became a small internet phenomenon by making a musician page on myspace. The myspace page featured assorted bizarre songs about very odd things. One song was about the amount of specks of milk on a milk bag. They group eventually broke up in March, 2007. Frederick said that he "wanted to go out with a bang", so he described an elaborate death for John Gushtaff (making it the false reason of the band splitting up). Another band member has slightly continued the "gushtaff phenomenon" by making his own songs, being supported by highly disturbing and odd videos posted on his youtube account.
Art
[edit]Frederick Welsh also works with many different forms of visual art (graphic design, painting, sketching, grafitti, etc.). He has recently created several photoshopped pictures of Karl Pilkington with one of his poems, as read in Podcast Series 3 of The Ricky Gervais Show. He has also made a photoshopped picture featuring Karl (represented as Charlie Brown) in jury duty, as read in Podcast Series 1.
Influences
[edit]Frederick has said that his main film influences are Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Ralph Bakshi and 60's-70's exploitation films.
