PROFESSOR DINABANDHU SAHOO

In 1961 on 9th October Dinabandhu Sahoo was born. Currently, he is working at Delhi University as a professor of botany (biology of algae and their effective use of sustainable development). He has worked as a scientist of international distinction with wide experience in sustainable development and environmental biotechnology field. He is the director of the Imphal-based Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable development. Since 2009 institute didn’t assign any full-time director in the department of science and technology.

Life & Education

He had completed his educational qualification from Delhi University and Utkal University moreover with first division and in 1981 and 1983 achieved distinction in his favorite subject Botany. In 1989, he accomplished his Ph.D. in Botany from Delhi University and in a duration of 1987-88 he was an only first-ever student from India who did take part in the seventh Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica. Additionally, in 1991-92 he undertook two trips to Arctic also. During 1987-89 He has even visited all the seven continents of the world within a duration of eighteen months and had also discovered “World’s first carbon capture vehicle”

He did his training in algae cultivation and utilization from more than two dozen countries. He was involved in numerous national and international conferences. He is also positioned as honorary director of the JD Centre of Art, Culture, and environment, India. In 2009, He has even acquired highest award from National Environmental Science Academy, India for his exceptional contribution in the era of Marine Science. During the same year, he has obtained one of the most reputable and distinguished awards from Odisha, Botanical Society for Popularization of Plant Science. A documentary film named “Chika: The Untold Story” was also Co-directed by him.

IBSD has recently taken out ASEAN Sustainability leadership award in 2016 in the field of academic leadership for its marvelous contribution and on behalf of IBSD he has personally accepted the award.
