[1] The Beras untuk Rakyat Miskin (Raskin) program provides rice at subsidised prices to low-income households in Indonesia. The program was introduced in 1998 as an emergency food security program during the Asian Financial Crisis. Eligible households are entitled to purchase 15 kg of rice per month for Rp 1,600/kg at distribution points compared with the market price of about Rp 9,000/kg. In 2013, 15 million households representing the poorest quarter of the population received subsidized rice through the Raskin scheme.
