From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heuer Chronosplit LCD/LED digital watch is the first wrist watch to combine a solid state digital watch with a solid state digital stop watch both in a wrist watch of normal size. It was released in 1975. The normal time display unsed a LC-display (LCD) whilst the stop watch used a LED display. The Heuer Chronosplit watch was used in the 1976 US TV series "The Gemini Man" because it looked so futuristic. Good working and cosmetic atractive specimens appear on ebay form time to time and get bids up to $4000 and even more. The reason is about 90% of all remaining Chronosplit watches are defect today due to battery leakage and ageing of some of it's components. In 1978 it was replaced by the Chronosplit two LCD model which now also used a LCD for the stop watch. These are very valuable today, too, because the electronics inside is very sensitive on battery acid and humidity so that not may have survived.
