Diana Dimitrova is an Indologist and scholar of Religious Studies and South Asian Studies. She is Professor of Hinduism and South Asian Studies at the Institute of Religious Studies at the University of Montreal. Her areas of interest include modern Hinduism, cultural identity, gender and "otherness," and Hindi drama, theatre, and film. She has published widely in the area of South Asian Studies, Gender Studies, and Cultural Studies.<1><2>

Education and Career

Dimitrova was awarded a Ph.D. in modern and classical Indology, and English and American Studies from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.

She has taught at the University of Frankfurt, Germany, McGill University, Canada, Emory University, Loyola University Chicago, and Michigan State University before joining the University of Montreal. She is a faculty member of the Institute of Religious Studies, of the Centre for Asian Studies and of the Centre for International Studies and Research.<3><4><5>

Honors and recognition

Throughout her career, Diana Dimitrova has been awarded fellowships and grants by institutions such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Lilly Endowment. <6>

She is a Series Editor of the "Routledge Series on South Asian culture" and of the series "Matière à pensée" of the University of Montreal Press. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Corporation for the Study of Religion and of the Canadian Society for the Study of Religion.<7> <8> <9>
