The Monroe County Courthouse is one of the most notable places in Monroeville, Alabama. It was built in 1903, but didn't get recognition until 1960. The courthouse is the same courthouse that was portrayed in Harper Lees's To Kill a Mockingbird. Although the movie wasn't filmed there, the courthouse is still widely known as being the famous courthouse in the book. Because of the book's success, the courthouse now holds annual plays of To Kill a Mockingbird at the Courthouse.
