Lolling Chair

The lolling chair originated during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Federal architecture[[1]] 1785 - 1815. This is also known as a Martha Washington chair. Lolling implies relaxation and comfort. This in contrast to the Chippendale period which preceded the Federal period which featured more ornate]Roccoco [2], and Neoclassical[[3]]elements. Following the American revolution the entire period is recognized by some as Federalist.
