Butterflies, Flowers is a romantic shoujo manga by Yuki Yoshihara focusing on the life of the protagonist, Choko Kuze. As a young girl, Choko's family owned a large estate and had many servants, one of which was her beloved caretaker "Cha-chan." Thirteen years prior to the start of the story, however, the Kuze family experienced a major financial problem, and as a result, was forced to sell the estate and fire all of the servants, "Cha-chan" included.

Thirteen years later, Choko starts working for a real-estate company, and the first question that Director Domoto, her new boss, asks her was if she was a virgin. She is thoroughly embarrassed by such a question, and when she asks a fellow employee who also just got hired what they had answered to the question, Choko realizes that no other person was asked such a question. Soon after, she starts working in the Administrative Department and is harrassed often by Director Domoto. Just when she starts to finally get used to her new job, a man who is very upset with Domoto barges in and threatens to hurt Choko. When the man is about to strike, Director Domoto exclaims, "Milady!" Choko is shocked to see that the Director actually cares about her well-being, but she is even more intrigued as to why he called her that, something that only "Cha-chan" called her.

After the man is calmed, Choko and Domoto talk. It is revealed that Domoto is actually Cha-chan, and after he and the other servants were fired, his parents gained a large sum of money after starting their own business. He also vows to still serve her, even though his financial state is high above hers. Choko's parents are just as shocked as she was, and Mikihiko, Choko's younger brother, believes Domoto to be unfit for his older sister. Nonetheless, the two start an almost secret relationship. At work, Domoto is cruel and sometimes even comically abusive to Choko, but when work ends, he becomes her loyal servant once more, much to her chagrin.

Masayuki Domoto does most things for Choko, even going so far as to spend New Year's Eve working in her family's soba shop. He also is quite reluctant to stop working and occasionally overworks himself, making Choko quite mad.
