Derek is a science teacher at a public school in the north western region of the United States. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the closing decades of the Cold War. He holds a degree in biology from a respectable institution and has studied other areas of science for the the purposes of teaching it to bright-eyed young people (they're all bright-eyed) and for fun. He is interested in seeking truth in all domains and forms while recognizing its complexity, obscurity and frequent multiplicity. He believes everyone should spend more time listening to and talking with people who are different from themselves.
