Despina Moraitou was born in 1959 in Thessaloniki, Greece. She came to the US as a foreign student and went on to receive an M.A. in International Relations from C. W. Post, Long Island University and a second M.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto, Canada. She has worked on Canadian TV's Channel 47 as an On-Air-Anchor and Associate Producer. In New York, she has served as Legislative Director for New York State Senate, Senator Martin Connor and Legislative Liaison for NYS Senator William Stachowski. She has coached recreational and competitive basketball to elementary and high school students. In 2010-11, she was the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for Orange High School, Pepper Pike, Ohio. Currently, she is writing a screenplay titled Kallikantzaroi and is learning to write short stories.
