I have a different form of classification than some, you see I'm a "lumper" among taxonomy, a "lumper" is someone who compares one species very broadly to another. So, my conclusions may turn out different from others, here are some, below, just to name a few.

Tyrannosaurus bataar in a classic deathpose at the University Geology and Palaeontology Museum, Münster, Germany.

Most have gone by the obsolete term of Tarbosaurus for this taxa, but it only differs from Tyrannosaurus rex in minute characteristics. These include the skull and some other parts. Its skull is a little more narrower that that of T. rex, but other than that they are pretty much identical. Although, these distinctions are large enough to seperate it from the subgenus Tyrannosaurus, forming its own subgenus clade, Tarbosaurus.

Classification

Family: Tyrannosauridae

Subfamily: Tyrannosaurinae

Tribe: Tyrannosaurini

Genus: Tyrannosaurus

Subgenus: Tarbosaurus

Daspletosaurus torosus vs. Tyrannosaurus torosus

[edit]

I have also, sometimes, synonymized Daspletosaurus with Tyrannosaurus. They share a number of many characters but they should be seperated, due to its lighter built skull, larger fenestrae, oval sized eye socket and triangular horn above the head. It kind of looks more like Allosaurus to me, than T. rex, because of its rectangular-shaped head. I used to synomize these two genera but now I know it is obsolete. Although I still wonder if they could be more similar than some may think.

Classification

Family: Tyrannosauridae

Subfamily: Tyrannosaurinae

Tribe: Tyrannosaurini

Genus: Daspletosaurus/Tyrannosaurus

Subgenus: Daspletosaurus/Daspletosaurus (confusing, isn't it)
