Season Information
[edit]Season 1 (2015)
[edit]The first ever season of the UK series had started production in January 2015, with casting details being announced one month later. The first episode sees the 5 members of Hangouts, Eddie Harper (Brad Lockwood), Piper Harper (Jade Alleyne), Janey Lancaster (Jade Ramsey), Mike Loud (Gabriel Thomson) and Mercy Adoo (Zara Thurstan) with their pet mascot Swimmy Sea (Frosty) appear to have graduated from college. It is also made clear that they have been in Hangouts for a number of years (no more than 5) together. Other characters in this series include Francis Magee as Victor Rodenmarr Jr., continuing his role from (House of Anubis) and being in charge of the leader group: The Governors SSS's. Daniela Denby-Ashe later joined her former co-stars Gabriel Thomson and Kris Marshall in the series as character Mel Williams. The season aired on the 17th July 2015 on POP, originally being an audience for the minimum of 12 year olds.
Season 2 (2016)
[edit]The second season was already renewed before the first season began airing. All stars from the first season were confirmed to return for the second installment of the huge rising franchise. Alex Hardy who played Lucas Loww featured only in half the episodes that season due to schedule conflicts. The show introduced a new pet owl who they named Hedwig. The season once again aired on POP and premiered on the 11th June 2016.
Season 3 (2017)
[edit]The third season saw all cast members return, but with the actress Zara Thurstan pulling out her main role as Mercy Adoo to be demoted to a recurring role due to schedule conflicts for the season and the following year, along with personal reasons. Producers decided to have her character involved in a stunt that would leave her status unknown until she was ready to fully return. To replace her came Klariza Clayton, who was in the last series to be a guest role as Janey's friend. She permanently replaced Thurstan for two seasons before her return, however, Clayton remained on the show as Joy Mercer, another character from House of Anubis. This was the last season to feature Daniela Denby-Ashe as Mel Williams in a main and recurring role after being "killed" in the same stunt Thurstan's character was in. She hinted at her exit just two months before the premiere of the third season, which occurred on the 7th June 2017. It was the final season to feature pet Hedwig after writers chose to kill him off.
Season 4 (2018)
[edit]In October 2017, a fourth season was greenlighted by POP, despite ofcom reports of season 3 being branded as 'too mature and dark' for a young audience. All cast members whose characters remained on the show at the end of season 3 returned for season 4. In January 2018, huge news came that Jade Alleyne would leave her role during the fourth season as Piper Harper. Her exit scenes aired in the sixth episode of that season. It was also confirmed Rosina Carbone was quitting her role as Stephanie Adams, who was the deputy of The Governors SSS's. The fourth season had a lighter tone the first two seasons had and premiered on 14th May 2018.
Season 5 (2019)
[edit]One month before the season premiere, Brad Lockwood confirmed he was temporarily leaving his role as Eddie Harper due to a huge scheduling conflict and the death of his beloved dog, Poachi. He has filmed only the first episode of the fifth season before being involved in the situations. At the same time, Jade Ramsey confirmed Janey's departure. Ramsey considered departing to take time off-screen but initially decided not to until Lockwood and Magee's exits. The season welcomed the return of Zara Thurstan as Mercy Adoo back into her main role to replace Piper, who did not return as a Hangouts member. New cast members Marc Marquez and Eugene Simon joined throughout the season. Simon's character replaces Ramsey's character Janey Lancaster with Marquez replacing Lockwood's character Eddie Harper as himself later on, becoming a love interest for Joy Mercer. Carbone and Alleyne returned as guests for different episodes to depart with Lockwood and Magee. The season premiered on the 6th July 2019 and was the last season broadcasted on POP, with the show being originally cancelled after the 15-minute special, Story Season. It was not until 2 days later ITV picked up the show to be shown on ITV2 with two new seasons commissioned. ITV said they saw huge potential in the show and couldn't let it go. The leader group, The Governors SSS's, was written off during the season as going bankrupt and shutting down their home and business.
Story Season (2019)
[edit]A 15-minute special aired on POP with Marc Marquez as the narrator, explaining what happened after Joy Mercer was possessed by a villain in a huge cliffhanger in the season 5 final. However, many fans said it was 'lazy writing' and they could have made it an hour special in the present rather than taking all the 'fun' out of it. POP completely withdrew from Hangouts the following day and released a statement saying the 15-minute special would air once again tomorrow for the final time after multiple complaints. The special was recorded by viewers and put on YouTube.
Season 6 (2020)
[edit]One of the biggest cast changes the show has ever faced, coming after season 5's disaster of starts quitting either temporarily or permanently. The show started production just a day after Story Season aired, with Brad Lockwood confirming his return as Eddie Harper; this confused many fans as they thought Lockwood would be taking more time off. In September 2019, POP confirmed they would not show season 6 or any future seasons on the channel as it was increasing it's target audience age range. The season marks the first ever season without Mike Loud (Gabriel Thomson) and their pet mascot, Swimmy Sea. Zara Thurstan chose not to return along with Eugene Simon and other recurring cast members. However, Daniela Denby-Ashe confirmed her return as a new character, Jade Stones, in the season 5 Christmas special as a one-off; Mel Williams and Jade Stones are completely different people. Jade Alleyne was supposed to return as Piper Harper but had to pull out due to the death of a loved one which affected her mentally and physically. She was replaced by Denby-Ashe, whose return as Jade was now permanent. Klariza Clayton and Marc Marquez reprised their roles as Joy Mercer and Marc Marquez. New cast members included Kyra Smith as Anika Rains and Eliyha Altena as Johnathan Thomson with their new pet mascot being a tortoise called Dino. Francis Magee returned as Victor for one episode. The season aired in a new timeslot on 20th January 2020.
Season 7 (2021)
[edit]Due to COVID restrictions, Marquez was absent for two weeks of filming, as well as Lockwood. Alleyne returned to the show as a permanent cast member with Smith, Denby-Ashe and Clayton returning. Eliyha did not return for the seventh season and Dino stayed as the pet mascot. During filming in July 2020, it was confirmed Frosty the fish, who played Swimmy Sea, had died. The show used an exact replica of him and his own scales respectively for Swimmy's funeral, which would be broadcasted in the seventh season. Despite Clayton returning, she was now a recurring character. The actress said there was no reason for why she was cut from half the season with a written off storyline. The show reintroduced cast member Kris Marshall to play Hugo Harper, Piper's son. Francis Magee returned for a cameo in the final episode. The season aired on the 4th January 2021.
Season 8 (2022)
[edit]During filming in July 2021, Queen Elizabeth II had visited the show's new location at fictional place Windsor Gardens – this confirmed an eighth season was in the works. Klariza Clayton confirmed her character Joy was back as a main role, with Brad Lockwood, Jade Alleyne and Kris Marshall returning with pet snake SnakeAss, who was confirmed the new pet mascot after Anika and Dino's departure. Denby-Ashe guest starred in the first episode after appearing to kill Eddie Harper, when it turns out he survived. At the end Jade Stones's character status was confirmed as unknown. New cast member Leah Ashley replaced Daniela Denby-Ashe as Marina Riverosa. New cast members such as Peter Capaldi joined. He plays new neighbour Jerry Lake. The season started airing on the 3rd January 2022 and was the second most watched season ever by viewers.
Two-Part Specials (2022)
[edit]All cast members returned for the big event. An hour before the premiere of the first installment on 18th July 2022, Klariza Clayton confirmed her departure as Joy Mercer. Characters Anika Rains, Dino and Johnathan Thomson all return for the special at a confirmed moment. Fans were left horrified when they were left on the huge unforgettable cliffhanger where Joy was brutally strangled as the popular scene shows her falling to the ground being held by the attacker. A picture resembling her and former character Janey Lancaster being shattered as Eddie rushes to save Joy's life. When arriving, Joy needs an ambulance. Piper calls a mysterious person her phone, later confirmed to be Janey on the other side, returning for the special after finding out the news. Her return was unexpected. At the end, Joy is alive but has to be in hospital for a lengthy period to recover fully. She and Marc exit the series, as well as Hugo Harper, who at the time was expected to return for the next season. The reason for Clayton and Marquez's exits are from them wanting to take a break for a long period. The special was the highest viewing Hangouts installment of all time on the 19th July 2022.
Season 9 (2023)
[edit]In this season we see new cast members Alyssa Guerrouche as Jen Jiles and Raul Fernandez as Augusto Slide. Torty the tortoise was confirmed as the new pet mascot of another new cast member Jacey Nottingham's character Albert Skinner. Recurring character Euro Levine was added to the cast to bd played by Joan Mir. Ashley chose to return as Marina Riverosa. The series sees a special guest appearance from Zara Thurstan as Mercy Adoo with boyfriend Gru Rodríguez, played by Jorge Martín. Production began in August 2022 and the series premiered on the 9th January 2023. It is the last series to feature Alesha Costa as a recurring character playing Silynthia Slighter, who had presumably drowned in a huge stunt.
Season 10 (2024)
[edit]The tenth season started production in July 2023. All six main cast members returned with a new pet mascot, Túrtle. The series premiered on the 8th January 2022 with a huge surprise guest appearance of singer-songwriter Ariana Grande as Vanessa. The season also welcomes famous actress Judi Dench as UK Prime Minister June Freshner, in which she has a love story with Peter Capaldi's character Jerry Lake. The first six episodes aired as normal. However, when fans came to see the seventh episode, it was not on the TV schedule. Fans first came to a confused conclusion at the end of the sixth episode when it said the phrase 'To be continued' as thd outro instead of the classic My Family one. The following day, producers confirmed that The Hangouts Movie would premiere on the 10th April 2024 and would wrap up the ongoing stalker storyline of Piper Harper since season 9. Once The Hangouts Movie ended, a week later, all the remaining four episodes of season 10 were put on ITVX as well as being broadcast usually. This season marked the final regular appearance of Leah Ashley's character Marina Riverosa. As well as characters Augusto Slide, Albert Skinner and Túrtle also bidding farewell. A new pet mascot, Cobalt, was introduced in the season 10 Christmas special.
The Hangouts Movie (2024)
[edit]The news was unexpected yet also expected after the strange end to season 10's episode six finale. Production had took place in the whole of August 2023, with most of season 10 being produced in the autumn to make room for the film. It debuted in cinemas across the whole of the UK on the 10th April 2024 and smashed the box office for the year. The film marks the huge returns of Klariza Clayton, Marc Marquez, Jade Ramsey and Daniela Denby-Ashe as Joy Mercer, Marc Marquez, Janey Lancaster and Mel Williams as part of the tenth anniversary. Viewers were remarkably happy and we're also lost for words at Denby-Ashe's return to reprise her original character role as Mel Williams in the first three seasons. However, they were left heart wrenched when her character was for real this time out killed when it was only just revealed she survived the season 3 stunt. The producers had managed to bring the ongoing season 9 storyline and the past season 3 storyline together to finally bring a conclusion to both former and current fans. This is the final appearance of Denby-Ashe as Mel Williams. Season 10 episodes 7 to 10 were launched on ITVX 2 days afterwards the show hit the big screen. A week later, Jade Ramsey confirmed her permanent return as Janey Lancaster for the 11th season, reuniting with Lockwood and Alleyne. The film became the 20th most watched film worldwide of all time and in the UK the 8th most watched film of all time in it's first year of being released.
Trip To Scunthorpe (2025)
[edit]We see the return of Janey Lancaster and new characters such as Scarlett Rainfall and Elliot Fall. Clayton and Marquez guest appear in the autumn special. The special is supposed to be a build-up to welcome the new cast members. It aired on the 2nd January 2025.
Season 11 (2025)
[edit]Filming for producing the 11th season starred at the usual month of July, with Jade Ramsey posting a picture to her Instagram of her confirmed permanent return to the show. Majority of cast members return and Ariana Grande guest appears in the fifth and sixth episodes. New cast members are introduced as Liana Miana is casted as Mia Woodgreen while Jay Young is casted as Ezra Orchid. Multiple cast members return for a stunt during the fifth and sixth episodes of the season with Thurstan, Thomson, Simon, Clayton, Marquez, Grande, Costa, Ashley, Marshall and Magee reprising their roles for guest appearances. Denby-Ashe returned once more, this time to permanently return as Jade Stones, who goes through a significant redemption arc. The first episode aired on 5th January 2025. During the final episode's premiere of the season, Jen's actress confirms she will return in season 12 with Mir. Magee also confirmed he would return with a 'memorable' character in the 12th season as recurring roles.
Season 12 (2026)
[edit]Everyone who had a main or recurring role in the previous season returned for the twelfth. Carbone returned with Magee halfway through the twelfth season along with Alesha Costa returning as a main character playing the famous Silynthia Slighter. Beforehand in the fourth episode of the season, Owen and Quartararo bowed out as Rainfall and Fall. King Charles III appeared in the Christmas special.
New York City Eve's (2027)
[edit]The half an hour special saw the departures of Alyssa Guerrouche as Jen Jiles and Joan Mir as Euro Levine, heading to New York City with their daughter Elizabeth Levine-Jiles. We see the guest appearance of Leah Ashley as Marina Riverosa. The special aired on New Year's Day.
Season 13 (2027)
[edit]This season, which aired on the 8th January 2027, started the two-series storyline of a brutal revenge plot from the Martinez family, who were involved in a heavy car crash at the start of the season with the Hangouts members. We see all of them wanting revenge for the death of the their daughter except from Judy Martinez, a new character, who knows it was an accident and wants to be free from her estranged family and stop them from causing significant harm. Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu is cast as Nova Plum with her pet kitten, Sparkles. Plum is a new Hangouts member who eventually opens up on her dark past to the gang. Other new cast members included Alexandro Baz, played by Lewis Cope, and Dreadla Ulta, played by Alena Permana.
Season 14 (2028)
[edit]The fourteenth season sees everyone return from the previous season. New cast members for the season included Fabio Di Giannantonio as Kodac Bradford, who has a past with Jade Stones, as Trina Tremaine and Denise Outen as Maeve Dreamering. It is the last season to feature Jay Young as Ezra Orchid in a main role after being murdered and Permana's character Dreadla Ulta. Fortescue's character Judy Martinez leaves as a main role but confirmed she could return for guest appearances in every season. Ashley makes another guest appearance as Marina at the end of the season. Judi Dench, Liana Miana and Bobby the cat return as mains this season after being recurring in the series beforehand. The Martinez revenge story ends in the sixth episode of the season. The 14th season aired on the 11th January 2028.
Madrid (2029)
[edit]To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary, the 15th season was renamed to Madrid and would be aired in the summer instead of the winter. Most cast members returned for this season and many made either guest or recurring appearances. Kris Marshall returned as a recurring role as Hugo Harper with SnakeAss and new character Snakeina, who is SnakeAss's girlfriend. Gemma Owen also returns as Scarlett Rainfall to conclude her family abuse storyline the way it should have been finished. And despite announcing her departure in the last series, Nova Plum returns with Sparkles, played by Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Sparkles herself, due to the gang travelling to Spain. Judi Dench is absent for nearly the entire series when it was made clear she could barely act anymore in 2028. She did however return to say goodbye to her on and off long romance with Jerry Lake Peter Capaldi in her resigning as PM and heading to California in the ninth episode; the scene was the fourth most viewed scene in Hangouts history. During the season, Jade Ramsey hinted at a possible exit for Janey as she ended up in a life or death situation in Madrid. Fortunately for many fans, she survived the stunt. Zara Thurstan and Gabriel Thomson returned for a brief guest appearance in the final episode to reunite the original gang from the first season. It is the last season to feature June Freshner, Nova Plum, Sparkles, Cobalt, AXIL., Ezra Orchid and Jerome Jose and Roboto, who guest appear with Judy Martinez at the end. The fifteenth season aired on the 1st July 2029 and concluded on the 11th August 2029.
Season 16 (2030)
[edit]The 16th season premiered on the 29th May 2030 and is the first season to be shown on 10 Peach and on Channel 7 in Australia. Production began in the summer of 2029, when Madrid was being aired for the first time. Due to an ongoing virus, production was postponed for two months. Producers confirmed a brand new time slot for the end of May to the start of July from the 16th season onwards. The season welcomes back many former cast members such as originals Thomson and Thurstan as Mike Loud and Mercy Adoo in later episodes. After 10 years, it was announced in January 2030 that Brad Lockwood and Jade Alleyne would step down from their roles for good and leave the show forever; their final episode being season 16 episode 8. Piper's mother and sister, Juana and Dove, also make guest appearances after she and Eddie and their family decide to leave and stay in Madrid. There were some characters not meant to return this season, but due to the unexpected news of long-standing cast members Lockwood and Alleyne leaving, some returned for their final storylines which producer Lily Hamilton said would happen in an interview in 2027 when and if Lockwood and Alleyne would choose to leave the show. Such as Magee and Carbone returning briefly in the fourth episode of the series, where Victor and Stephanie appear via facetime to say they are getting married. Marina Riverosa returns to replace Nova Plum with her Jack Russell, Lily, who replaces Cobalt as the pet mascot due to him moving in with Nova and Sparkles in Madrid. Leah Ashley said it is wonderful to return as a Hangouts member after 5 years making on and off guest appearances. However, she announced it would be her final season. As part of Lockwood and Alleyne's final season, half of the Home and Away cast appeared as the season was set not too far away from the Summer Bay set. Kate Middleton also appears with William, Prince of Wales and their 3 children. Due to the phenomenal stunts taking place and special guest stars thus it being the final season for many, the 16th season became the most watched season ever. After the season finished, Channel 7 made a deal to put all 16 seasons on their network. Just one week later, ITV announced to the public producers said privately the 16th series was the final season overall. Although, many fans had speculated this beforehand as cast members Marc Marquez and Klariza Clayton posted together on Instagram they were filming their final season, which was deleted after 4 minutes of being out to the public. A spin-off series was confirmed for some cast members.
