Excerpt from the Étude Op. 10, No. 1

Étude Op. 10, No.1 in C major, composed by Frédéric Chopin. It is a study on finger strength and hand stretch.[1]

Description

[edit]

The French and German first editions has show the time signature to be in common time[2], however it is cut time in the autograph manuscript[3], and the tempo is at a brisk allegro with a metronome marking of crotchet = 176 (Autograph has no tempo marking nor metronome mark[4]).

The etude consists in the right hand large arpeggios, which modulate into various keys and contains the melodious lines at certain points, while left hand plays low octaves as the main melody.
