The Throws are an American rock band based in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of Adit Rao (Vocals/Guitar), Eliot Waldhorn (Bass/Vocals), and Joey Ponchetti (Drums/Vocals).
ORIGINS
The Throws began in 2006 when Rao and bass player Johnny Vergara started collaborating on a series of songs. The duo had performed together since 2000, and began writing together in their spare time. By 2007, the new songs had found their way to music supervisors and agents who featured them in television and film. This resulted in a number of placements on well-known shows such as One Tree Hill, Cavemen, What About Brian, and All My Children. At the same time, a small fanbase in college radio markets also encouraged them to complete a full length record. But without a definitive sound or a batch of songs ready— they were forced to release a series of singles while continuing to write.
PRECIOUS (2010)
As it turned out, completing the record was a slow process. For a time, a revolving series of drummers came and went until Joey Ponchetti joined the band as a full-time member. Along the way, other friends such as John Lefler (Dashboard Confessional), Jason Orme (Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan) and Randy Guss (Toad the Wet Sprocket) also contributed to the recordings. The Throws' first full-length album Precious was eventually released in December of 2010. By that time, Vergara had left the band to pursue other interests and was replaced by Eliot Waldhorn.
