David O'Brien James (born April 8, 1982), is an American businessman, activist, and entrepreneur.
Early Life
[edit]David James was born in Flint, Michigan and grew up on the southwest side of the city in a subdivision called Woodcroft Estates.[1] David attended Holy Family Catholic School in Grand Blanc, MI from kintergarten - eighth grade before attending Powers Catholic High School in Flint from 1996 - 2000. In 1998 David was part of the Division 2 MHSSA State Champion Golf team, and finished in the Top 10 in the 1999 Big-Nine Conference Tournament, shooting a carrer best 77 at Genesee Valley Meadows Golf Club.
College Days
[edit]David attended Michigan State University and graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. While studying at MSU, David attended a study abroad program at the University College of London, where he studied European Arts and Humanities and learned about European Architecture and Design. During his college career, David also moved to New York City and slept on his cousin's couch to complete a summer internship with the Brooklyn fashion house Yoko Devereaux. After living abroad in London and spending a summer in New York City, David gained an appreciation for the global Urban Men's Fashion market, and wanted to learn more about the business. David joined the student group M.A.D.E. (Multicultural Designers and Entrepreneurs) in 2003 to learn how to design, construct and run a fashion show, where he debuted his first designer collection "David O'Brien".
Professional Career: 2005 - Present
[edit] Executive Assistant to Hamilton South
David started his professional career in New York City at a luxury communications and PR agency, HL Group. As an Executive Assistant to the CEO, David helped coordinate fashion shows, political fundraisers, holiday events, and shadowed their CEO as he developed global marketing and communication strategies.
Personal Assistant to Sean Combs
From 2007 - 2009, David served as the Personal Assistant to Sean Combs where he took on the role as his personal social media manager launching three digital series (DiddyTV, PTwittyTV, Personal Assistant TV) and produced content for Diddy's Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and USteam channels.
Social Media Marketing Director
Since November 2009 David has been with the digital agency Attention[2], where he is a Social Media Marketing Director working with clients from a variety of industries including Fashion, Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods, Spirits and Entertainment. Some of his previous campaigns include the “Larger than Life” Pinterest Board installation at Westfield UTC[3], and “The Hunger Games Mall Tour[4].
