Readings & Assignments

[edit]
  • For Sep 7:
    • read New Yorker article Know It All and Wikipedia:Tutorial
    • Create an account and add your name to the Students list below
    • Edit your user page so that it has something on it
    • Make at least one article edit - fix a spelling mistake, remove some vandalism, or some other small but useful contribution
  • For Sep 14:
    • Read Wikipedia:Five pillars
    • Make 4 productive edits to articles - they can be grammar or spelling fixes, formatting, vandalism reverting, whatever.
  • For Oct 12:
    • Read William Patry's "Protecting the Idle Rich"
    • Upload an image to Wikipedia or to Wikimedia Commons. It should be something you created (not based on someone else's work), or clearly public domain (e.g. published in the U.S. prior to 1923). Try to find something useful for an article, but if you can't, an image for your user page is also acceptable.
  • For Oct 19:
    • Read "Bound by Law?"
    • Upload an image if you haven't already. Make sure your images are properly described and tagged. Include something like the following (replacing "WHAT THIS IS A PHOTO OF", "YOUR_USER_NAME" and the date by the appropriate information):
{{Information
|Description= WHAT THIS IS A PHOTO OF
|Source=own work
|Date= 12 October 2010
|Author=  [[User:YOUR_USER_NAME]]
}}
{{self |cc-by-sa-3.0}}
