The Umbrella Corporation is a fictional international pharmaceutical conglomerate appearing in the Resident Evil franchise. Founded by Ozwell E. Spencer and the Ashford family, the company illegally manufactures biological agents and creatures for warfare. Umbrella is frequently depicted as the main antagonists in the first entries of the series, with playable characters frequently caught in outbreaks caused by their experiments. The company is later declared financially bankrupt after a T-Virus outbreak that results to the destruction of Raccoon City, though their research and technology are used by various other companies to aid their own research. The company later returns as a paramilitary organization dedicated to containing outbreaks.
