Contents
[edit]- 1Task 1: Copy and pasting this page into your sandbox
- 2Task 2: Fix a typo
- 3Task 4: Adding links
- 4Task 5: Using elements from other pages
- 5Task 6: Add a citation
- 6Task 7: Infobox
Task 1: Copy and pasting this page into your sandbox[edit]
[edit]Click "Edit source" and copy and paste the contents of this page into your own sandbox. (Tip: ⌃ Ctrl + a to select all)
- To make a new sandbox page under your account, simply "create a new file" by writing /something after /sandbox in the URL (e.g.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Utl_jung/sandbox/mango)
Then, publish the page. This will give you a copy of this page which you can now freely edit.
Task 2: Fix a typo[edit]
[edit]Edit the typo in the following sentence: "Fixing typos is a simple but useful way to contribute to Wikipedia."
Task 3: Formatting
[edit]Make the above, bolded text reading "Task 3: Formatting" into a Heading and make sure it isn't bolded. (Bonus marks for removing any extra paragraph spaces above "Task 3: A bit of formatting" so that there is no extra space above the new heading.) [Note that Task 3 should now appear automatically in the table of contents section near the top of the page.]
Make this line of text a Sub-heading 1
[edit]Turn this line into regular paragraph text instead of this weird box thing-y
Task 4: Adding links[edit]
[edit]Adding internal link[edit]
[edit]Link Da 5 Bloods to the Wikipedia article for the movie. (Bonus marks for italicizing the link since movie titles are italicized, even when linked).
Adding external link[edit]
[edit]Link Spike Lee[1] on IMBD to the external page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000490/
Editing link[edit]
[edit]The following link for Tracy Moore is meant to link the the Canadian journalist's article on Wikipedia, but right now it goes to a disambiguation page for that name. Edit the link so it goes straight to the correct page.
"To link or not to link, that is the question"[edit]
[edit]For the paragraph below, there are too many links—it is overlinked! Remove the ones that you think shouldn't be there.
This is an example paragraph to help people get a better sense of what should and should not be linked. It is not an exact science, but there is a style manual for linking on Wikipedia that can help Wikipedia editors. The style manual for linking on Wikipedia recommends adding red links for pages that don't yet exist.
Task 5: Using elements from other pages[edit]
[edit]Below this paragraph, copy over the table showing the "Awards and nominations" from Delroy Lindo. This is a bit of a complex table, so if you wanted to do the same table for another actor, it would be easier to duplicate and edit versus create from scratch. (Tip: when something doesn't work copy and pasting in Visual editing, using the Source editing should do the trick...)
Task 6: Add a citation[edit]
[edit]Add a manual citation to the paraphrased sentence below which was taken from the following article: https://www.pressreader.com/canada/toronto-star/20131219/281827166586179
Rambhaben Jethalal was born in India and moved to South Africa in 1913 as a teenage bride[2].
Task 7: Infobox[edit]
[edit]In the space below, replicate the infobox on the article for Nathaniel Dett, without copy and pasting it ;) Remember: an infobox is a template! To add a template, press "Insert" > "Template".
