Bienestar Human Services, colloquially known as Bienestar, is a social services organization based in the Greater Los Angeles area, which provides support for and conducts research on populations that are Latino and LGBTQ, especially with HIV/AIDS.[1] There are nine Bienestar Southern California community centers located in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.[2]
A 2008 case study found that even in large LGBT organisations in the United States with significant resources to conduct HIV/AIDS support such as Bienestar, medical models of sexuality and disease prevalence were routinely used to justify gender discrimination in employment (see gender inequality in the United States), and significantly disproportionate support for programs for gay men at the expense of programs for women.[3]: 104
