Black flight The movement of black people moving out of bigger cities into suburbs, black fight, has increased significantly increased since 1990 to present. “Propelling black flight is the search for stable incomes, safe neighborhoods and prosperity.”1 Much of this migration is caused by gentrification, rising the cost of living in big cities and the more cheaper housing is more suitable for many families who cannot afford the homes in the bigger cities.”During the years after the economic recession of the late 2000s, migration to those states slowed, but it has heated up again as states in the South have greater job opportunities and affordable housing.”2 The first boundary comes from the the black families that need to move out of these big cities that do not support them the most, but can not because of how little they have. Then the black community around them that leave, are the people that are most likely to support these families that need help. This increases the wage gap between large cities, between the wealthy people and the lower class that do not have enough to find a home elsewhere, as the middle class blacks leave to find safer and better areas to support their families. Even though it is positive that people are looking for new and better opportunities, it leaves others who are not as privileged stranded in the big cities. The boundary of money keeps the people who need to move the most, stuck in the places that others want to leave. “Although many blacks still suffer the effects of inequality and segregation is far from gone, the economic and residential environments for blacks have improved well beyond the highly discriminatory, ghettoized life that most experienced for much of the twentieth century.”3 Many blacks use this “reverse migration”4 as a way to escape the racism experienced in the north, crossing the border back into safe havens of black communities in the south. Even though the south is viewed as the more conservative part of the country, going back in history to where slavery happened, there are many communities that young blacks are flocking to such as Atlanta and Texas. “Nationally, almost 82,000 black millennials migrated south in 2014, according to an analysis of census data at Georgetown.”5 As suburb communities are becoming less conservative and new hubs for black communities arise, more black individuals and families are willing to leave their homes to find safer and more comfortable places to live in. Suburbs and southern America are becoming borders for black people to thrive away from the racism and expenses found in large cities. Black flight is creating a newfound separation between blacks and whites once again. As the more blacks leave large cities, the whiter they get. In Portland and Seattle, “blacks were squeezed by restrictive property covenants and racial prejudice into a small but highly visible central district—black-majority islands in a white sea.”6 We already see white a a border between whites and blacks in large cities, there is still the same boundary between blacks and whites if the blacks are migrating into the suburbs. As whites are moving in looking for very nice housing and job opportunities, they renovate the black people’s homes in the large cities forcing blacks to spread out of the boundary of the city the whites are creating. As blacks are moving further from northern America and from larger cities, it once again creates another boundary or separation from the many white people in America. The more whites and blacks are separated, the more the cultural, physical, and social borders will become more prevalent.

Coca-colonization Coca-Colonization has always been more than just supplying the world with coca-cola, but also a way to advertise how great America is supposed to be and to spread its culture. At first in 1948, many countries feared accepting coca-cola, for they feared that accepting a small part of American culture could be a kickstart for America to slowly increase its influence on them. Countries feared that America was crossing boundaries of privacy and independence, trying to impress upon countries, their newfound power and lifestyle through the spread of Coca Cola. “Coca-Cola was part of a fun, carefree American lifestyle, and the imagery of its advertising – happy couples at the drive-in, carefree mums driving big, yellow convertibles – reflected the spirit of the times.”1 This Coca Cola represented the perfect world, creating an image of how people should be living. America used Coca Cola to help connect them to other countries and influence them on how their countries should be: a liberal democracy. Part of the coca-colonization was to be able to infiltrate communists states, and have them change to be like America. Coca cola is America’s way to reach across the borders of different countries to both, gain relationships with them, and also to try and convert some into a government like America’s. America is crossing the border of Post war relationshionships, going to countries they even fought against such as Germany and Japan to promote their coca cola culture. America out of their way to leave their own comfortable boundary of their perfect world to try and have other people join them in their idea of a perfect world. Once America had traversed many different borders and boundaries, coca cola became a worldwide drink, creating stations in many of the countries around the world. Crossing these borders and intruding on another’s privacy can have consequences such as losing relationship or connection to that country for too trying to be too much involved in their lives. Coca cola allowed America to defuse many of these hostile countries with the front to improve its business by supplying the world of coca cola. This allowed other countries more comfortable with America trying to spread its own culture into their country. America used boundaries and borders to their benefit, showing off an item unknown to the rest of the world to find their way into other countries around the world, setting relationships and finding information about other countries.
