Victorinus became emperor of the Gallic Empire after the death of Marius. He had to deal with an attack by the Roman Empire of emperor Claudius Gothicus (Claudius II). Claudius reconquered Spain and parts of southern Gaul.

Augustodunum revolted against the Gallic Empire and tried to rejoin the Roman Empire. It took a siege of 7 months, for Victorinus, to reconquer the city.

Victorinus was murdered by one of his officers in either 270 or 271.
