From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Summerhill Society was formed to promote the Summerhill idea in America after the 1960 release of Summerhill.

History

[edit]

In late 1960, Harold Hart published Summerhill, a compilation of four of A. S. Neill's books about his educational philosophy and boarding school Summerhill School, repackaged for an American audience.[1] The book found immediate success across the country.[2] Hart organized a Summerhill Society in New York City.[2] Paul Goodman was another founding member.[2]
