Haley McGee is a Toronto-based actor and playwright. Most recently Haley has been touring her solo show OH MY IRMA[1] internationally with performances in Amsterdam, Kiel (Germany), NYC, Brighton, London (UK), Victoria (BC) and Mongolia. OH MY IRMA had its professional premiere in Toronto as part of Theatre Passe Muraille’s 2010/11 Season.
As a playwright she was a member of the 2011 Tarragon Theatre’s Playwrights’ Unit and is a Writer-in-Residence at Theatre Columbus with whom she recently collectively created The Public Servant (GCTC Undercurrents). She has been selected to develop projects at the Banff Playwrights Colony and The Stratford Festival’s Writers Retreat. Theatre Columbus will produce a new play by Haley in December 2013 at the Evergreen Brickworks, Toronto.
Some of her acting credits include Having Hope at Home, The Lonely Diner, Early August (Blyth Festival) The Great Gatsby (The Grand Theatre), The Story (Theatre Columbus), Courageous (New Stages Theatre Co), The Situationists (Buddies in Bad Times Theatre), All That Fall (Theatre Columbus), Why We Tortured Him (Hammertheatre), Summer of My Amazing Luck (1000 Islands Playhouse).
Haley was a member of The Second City Conservatory and she holds a BFA in Acting from Ryerson University. She is the recipient of several Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creators’ Reserve Grants and a two-time recipient of the Toronto Arts Council Emerging Playwrights Grant (2008, 2011).
