"Hate Worldwide" is a song by the thrash metal band Slayer, released on their 2009 World Painted Blood. It was released as a single on July 28, 2009, and peaked at number two on the US Hot Single Sales.
Composition
[edit]The song has a duration of two minutes and 52 seconds, and was written by guitarist Kerry King, who said "It's a really cool track, and Tom's voice sounds incredible on it. The last line in the song's chorus is '..spread a little hate worldwide,' and that's what we've been doing for 25 years." In an interview, King said that he it was his version of "Unit 731", meaning that he "was the first one that taught Dave [Lombardo] for this recording cycle." King also said that he liked the vocal track is arranged, explaining: "it seems like the guitar answers and its like, you know, big time. The chrous has a cool hit to it, awsome song." Vocalist Tom Araya had in fact, said that he "made [the song] sound great." Drummer Dave Lombardo said that "It's like a Slayer inside joke--when I hear 'spread a little hate worldwide', like spreading hate worldwide like a sandwich, it's stupid."
Release
[edit]In October 2008, Slayer's song "Psychopathy Red", leaked online, and was reported in July 2009 been streamed more than a half-million times. Nine months later, Slayer made the "Hate Worldwide" limited-edition single. It was available on the Internet before November 2008 and after July 2009, and had been streamed more than a half-million times by July 2009.[1] On July 28, 2009, the song was released as a CD-single, exclusively available at Hot Topic stores.[2] "Hate Worldwide" was released as a limited-edition CD-single on October 20, 2009, through Columbia records.[3] The song was made available exclusively at Hot Topic stores and was streamed at Hot Topic's ShockHound.com.
Along with five other songs, "Hate Worldwide" was nominated for a Best Metal Performance Grammy Award, but lost to "Dissident Aggressor" by Judas Priest.[4]
