Miss Erika Shanley Rech, of Middletown, N.J. was crowned Miss National Sweetheart on July 25, 2010 in Philadelphia. After winning Miss New Jersey Sweetheart in Ocean City in April, Erika went on to compete in the ANTSO National Sweetheart Competition, coming out the winner.
Erika, 18, lives in Middletown and attended High Technology High School in Lincroft. She will be attending Villanova University’s School of Business in the fall. Erika co-founded Breast Friends Forever, (www.breastfriendsforever.org, a charity that raises money for direct relief for women who are struggling with breast cancer. Her charity has raised over $150,000 since its inception. Erika was named a distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and was honored at the State House as New Jersey’s Top Youth Volunteer in 2009 and 2010. Erika is a Red Cross ‘Hometown Hero” and a Comcast Leaders and Achievers Award Winner.
