Food Consulting
Food Consulting is often associated with independent auditing and compliance due diligence. Food industry consultants encompass food and beverages, ingredients, finished products, retail and marketing. There is a complex regulatory environment in place that operates across a global marketplace and companies may require independent support to navigate the regulations. Some of the different regulatory bodies include the Food and Drug Administration FDA and Environmental Protection Agency EPA in the US, in Europe there is the European Food Safety Authority EFSA and individual states typically have their own standards, the UK for example is governed by the Food Standards Agency FSA and the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs DEFRA, in addition there are trade led standards in use including the British Retail Consortium BRC global certification scheme.
Consultants cover a diverse range of disciplines which include technical research, management, business, law and finance. They may be expert chemists, sensory scientists or microbiologists supporting new product development, product safety or engineering and manufacturing. Consultants may be independent sole operators, a member of loose association of consultants or an employee in a consulting firm. Consultants typically have a senior level of experience often gained in large multinational organisations or research institutes.
