Allan Wood is the author of an autobiographical webcomic titled "Allan." He first started it in February of 2007 when he wanted to see if he could succeed in both the online and comic worlds. It's a part of the Rampage Network which hosts other notable comics such as Applied Living.[1] He is a member of the collective sketch-blog Mediocre Militia, and a valuable asset to the Drunk Duck webcomic community. Allan is known for he signature trucker hat and sweatshirt.
Biography
[edit]Allan Wood was born on August 16th, 1991. He started drawing at the age of four, focusing his works mostly around entomology. Eventually Allan improved his skills enough to draw comics on the side. He first started his autobiographical comic when one of his best friends gave him the idea. The comic chronicles most of his life from then on, including his job at a delicatessen and various life-changing situations. Around the middle of 2008 Allan moved to Southern California. He currently resides there with his parents and attends a Community College full time.
Xum
[edit]"Xum" is a word made up by Allan Wood some time ago. It's an abbreviation of "excuse me", taking the "x" and "u" from "excuse" and the "m" from "me". It's pronounced "xoom" and is used in the same situations one would use "excuse me".
Comics
[edit]Allan
[edit]The first and most notable of Allan's webcomics is his autobiographical comic "Allan." The focus of this comic is Allan Wood's life since around February of 2007. One of the most recurring characters is Rob. According to the comic, Rob has been Allan's best friend since fourth grade. Most of the comic involves his romantic interest and drama with various people in his ex-highschool. The comic lost almost all of the main characters when Allan and his family moved away from the town and for a while was focused on gaining back the lost amount of characters.
Allan is drawn in a simple yet intriguingly artistic way. It borders on being almost stick-figure-esque, but the detail put into the characters and backgrounds lends it a unique feel. It's colored every now-and-again, and the color is always tastefully done.
Red Future
[edit]This is one of Allan Wood's less known artistic endeavors. It's featured on Drunk Duck (a webcomic community) and is only fourteen comics long. Red Future is a fictional comic based on a post-apocalyptic world in which "tremors" and cannibals are common. The comics themselves do little to alert the reader of the plot and setting of the world. The reader is meant to also read all the fictitious "logs" provided next to the comics which are the journalings or digital diary entries of a scientist stationed near the Red Future building. The logs are all very surreal and leave much to the imagination, but they add a whole other dimension to the comic.
Red Future is drawn very stylistically with hardly any defined lines, and limited dialogue. The grainy color and defined textures capture the attention very quickly.
The 600
[edit]Artists Allan Wood and Ryan Wilson decided to have a webcomic challenge called The 600. They each had to make ten comics a day for thirty days which adds up to six hundred comics.
These minimalistic comics focused more on quantity rather than quality. The 600 are mostly in gag-a-day format, but with some repeating themes and characters.
The 600 was continued as a regular daily gag-a-day comic called Xum.
Hobbies and Projects
[edit]Allan has made several YouTube videos of himself playing guitar and recorded many songs. He enjoys skateboarding and (obviously) art. He's gone through several guitars (as referenced in his comic) and is currently searching for a name for his solo band.
