The Honor Society Organization is the parent organization under which there is Honor Society also know as HonorSociety.org, the Honor Society Foundation, and the Honor Society Museum. Honor Society is a technology driven organization recognizing achievement among members in all disciplines.[1][2] The mission of the society is to facilitate members to realize their highest potential through the advancement of academics, leadership and networking. Honor Society is meant to serve people through their academic journey, as well as throughout their professional and personal life. [3][4] Honor Society offers university chapters, experiential education programs, conferences and graduation regalia[5]. The society also offers a platform for members to display their achievements, as well as connect with companies, universities and other educational opportunities [6] Honorary members of the society include Antonio Villaraigosa[7] (Former Mayor of Los Angeles) and Cobi Jones (US Men's National Team World Cup Soccer Player).

Chapters & Networks

[edit]

Chapters are meant to uphold the core values and mission of Honor Society for their university/college. The chapters represent a campus presence for a group of members at a particular college. Chapters give members an opportunity to connect in person with like-minded people in their area. HonorSociety.org maintains two tiers of university and regional groups. Recognized chapters are groups with recognition from Honor Society and their respective university.[10] Networks are member groups that have not yet received chapter designation. Below is a list of recognized Honor Society chapters:

Experiential Education

[edit]

Honor Society facilitates experiental learning for its members by coordinating annual member trips, leaderships summits and immersive programs. The society partners with Dream Careers[30], Think Impact[31], and Semester at Sea to facilitate work and study abroad experiences for its members. Honor Society member trips are available as networking and educational opportunities. The member trips are usually planned during school breaks such as winter or summer break, in order to serve as an enhancement to a student's academic pursuits.

Recognition

[edit]

Honor Society recognizes member academic achievements in both offline and online modes.[32][33] Offline, Honor Society members have access to graduation regalia, such as honor cords, stoles and medallions[34]. Members also receive a membership certificate and the member induction ceremonies when they join as members. Online, members have access to creating a comprehensive academic and professional profile that is publicly shown to companies and search engines alike. An additional benefit to this recognition is the reputation management value of positive branding when companies and individuals search the web.[35] Membership is recognized in tiers depending on a student's GPA, allowing high achieving students to receive additional recognition within the society.

Career Management

[edit]

Honor Society provides career management tools to help members research industries, prepare for opportunities, and find internship and careers.[36][37] Honor Society members have the ability to create a profile of their academics, professional experience, interests and abilities in order to be matched to career opportunities. This platform is also available to companies that have jobs available and are looking to hire students and professionals. Zappos uses the tool to recruit for their internship program.[38] Students also have the ability to connect with higher education programs in the fields of their choice. This proprietary platform is considered one the the main differentiators and benefits of Honor Society. Beyond the recognition that Honor Society provides to its members, the honor society maintains partnerships with large corporations and career focused services to provide Honor Society members with additional opportunities and privileges. This includes partnerships with Vault to provide in-depth career guides and profiles as well as job postings.[39]

[edit]

Honor Society offers scholarships and awards to its members. These scholarships are meant to enhance student's collegiate experience and cover the costs of programs like study abroad opportunities, research and more. The society offers a comprehensive directory of third party scholarships, and offers five scholarships directly to its member base. These five scholarships are the undergraduate achiever scholarship, graduate achiever scholarship, community service scholarship, and member spotlight scholarship. [40][41][42]
