Community Media is media directed towards ordinary citizens. Outlets are started and controlled by communities linked together by geography or common interest. The World Bank, The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, and the European Commission recognize community media as a crucial element in a vibrant and democratic media system.

Definition Community media is defined as any form of media that is independent of the market-driven commercial and mainstream outlets. It is focused towards ordinary citizens and encourages their participation. and is focused towards ordinary citizens.

Key Characteristics Community media is not privately or state run. It has an open viewpoint. News is delivered to citizens through local broadband networks and radio.
