Bio
[edit]About me
[edit]First things first, my name is Trishala (Trish-ah-la), but I go by Trisha. I'm currently a part-time running start student & my preferred pronoun is she/her. I'm from Nepal, which is a relatively small country between India and China. My favorite hobbies include traveling & listening to music (well aware they're not as interesting as others). I can't go a day without listening to some form of music. It's highly effective when it comes to uplifting your mood and reducing stress levels[1].A few words that describe me are, driven, independent, considerate and appreciative. I'm also very open-minded, which can be somewhat frustrating at times because I struggle with forming opinions and, overall, it ends up leading to indecisiveness. In the future, I want to major in a science-related field, perhaps neuroscience. The brain has always been fascinating to me and neuroscience is a growing field that I think I would love to be a part of.
My Wikipedia interests
[edit]As I continue using Wikipedia, I would like to look at different pages of conspiracy theories that interest me and compare my knowledge to the information on the page. I will also look at other reliable sources to see if they have any similarities. A few popular conspiracy theories that have peaked my interests include area 51, simulated reality, the Illuminati and population control. In the future, I would love to create my own Wikipedia page on a lesser-known conspiracy theory. It may be a little too ambitious at the moment considering I haven't really used Wikipedia in the past and have little knowledge of other conspiracy theories, but hopefully, that changes later on.
Article evaluation
[edit]Psychedelics are hallucinogenic drugs that allow you to experience an altered state of consciousness through psychological, auditory, and visual changes. There are several types of psychedelics, and their effects are dependent on different factors such as the individual's expectations, health, the amount taken, etc. Each of these psychedelics have their own Wikipedia page dedicated to them which are much more detailed and informative, however, to get a general understanding of psychedelics, I visited the psychedelic drug page on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the need for verified citations, lack of information for a couple of the subheadings and the number of wiki links.
Citations
[edit]The article contains many citations leading to credible sources, however, under the “Psychedelic experiences” subheading, there seems to be a few pieces of information that have not been cited. This makes it difficult for the reader to trust what has been included, especially since it has to deal with chemical compounds; not everyone is knowledgeable when it comes to such areas.
Lack of Information for subheadings
[edit]Most of the subheadings include decent amounts of information except for a couple: “recreational use” and “legal status.” For the “recreational use” section, there is only a sentence provided along with a wikilink leading to another page. It would be helpful and much more efficient for readers if some of the information from the wiki link was summarized and cited under the subheading on this page. For “legal status,” it simply mentions that psychedelics are illegal in many countries under the declaration of the UN Convention On Psychotropic Substances and fails to say which countries have adapted to the law and which have not.
Number of wiki links
[edit]The article was strong in the area of including wiki links. It provided a list of the different psychedelics and which family compounds they fall in. Each of these had their own wiki link directing you to a more informative and lengthier Wikipedia page. There were also wiki links for more complex terms such as vesicular monoamine transporter 2 and trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1).
Summary
[edit]I would say this is a pretty well-done article, however, it still lacks information in some areas, and a few have yet to be cited. This page provides many wiki links in case you plan on going in-depth with your research. It’s strong in the area of providing external sources and a general overview of psychedelics, but I think it can definitely be improved to be a better page.
