The SLF is a research institute based in Davos, Switzerland. Its primary interest is science in snow and avalanches, with aims to mitigate snow-related natural hazards. It operates as a division of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research, part of the ETH Domain.
History
[edit]Given Switzerland's location in the Alps, avalanches have always been a threat. Increasing population density (when?) and clearing of land at higher altitudes inevitably brought humans into contact with natural hazards.
The SLF's predecessor was founded in 1936 to help companies to manage winter risks[1], with a small wooden building on the Weissfluhjoch in the Plessur Alps.
...something about the monitoring network
...something about disastrous avalanches
In 1996, the headquarters was moved from the Weissfluhjoch to Davos.
In 2018, UNESCO added the Swiss and Austrian practices of avalanche risk management to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Functions
[edit]The SLF's mandate in law is rather broad, and so it is active in many fields of research, as well as education and public engagement.
The SLF maintains Switzerland's avalanche monitoring and warning network, produces a twice-daily avalanche bulletin, aimed at people travelling through avalanche terrain.
Avalanche safety courses
Glaciers fall with SLF's mandate. They feed most (all) of the rivers in the country, and are vital for countries downstream as well

National Congress Building (Brazil)
[edit]In early 1900s, the Brazilian National Congress happened to be in separate buildings. The Senate was located near Railway Central Station, beside the Republica Square, at Moncorvo Filho Street, where there is today a Federal University of Rio de Janeiro students' center. The Federal Chamber of Deputies was located at Misericórdia Street, which would later be the location of the State of Rio de Janeiro's local Chamber of Deputies. From the 1930s to early 1960s, the Senate occupied the Monroe Palace, which was demolished in the 1970s to allow the construction of the subway Cinelândia Station. The Federal Chamber of Deputies moved to Brasília in the early 1960s as well but temporarily occupied a building near the Municipal Theater for a couple of years.[citation needed]
Since the 1960s, the National Congress has been located in Brasília. As with most of the city's government buildings, the National Congress building was designed by Oscar Niemeyer in the modern Brazilian style.[citation needed]
The semi-sphere on the left is the seat of the Senate, and the semi-sphere on the right is the seat of the Chamber of the Deputies. Between them are two vertical office towers. The Congress also occupies other surrounding office buildings, some of them interconnected by a tunnel.[citation needed]
The building is located in the middle of the Monumental Axis, the main street of Brasília. In front of it there is a large lawn where demonstrations take place. At the back of it, is the Praça dos Três Poderes (Three Powers Plaza), where lies the Palácio do Planalto and the Supreme Federal Court.
On December 6, 2007, the Institute of Historic and Artistic National Heritage (Portuguese: Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional) decided to declare the building of the National Congress a historical heritage of the Brazilian people. The building has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of Brasília's original urban buildings, since 1987.[citation needed]

Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares
[edit]The Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares (lit. 'Brazilian Hospital Services Company'), better known by the abbrevation EBSERH, is a state-owned corporation, entirely under the control of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, with the purpose of providing medical services, health care education, and medical research. These functions are delivered jointly with federal universities and other educational institutions.
It is the largest public hospital network in Brazil, consisting of 41 Federal University Hospitals (HUFs), which serve as centers for medium and high complexity treatment for the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
The creation of EBSERH as a state-owned enterprise raised the HUF's in its network to higher levels of administrative efficiency and control, disclosure of accounting information and transparency of events that affect the equity, economic and financial situation of these entities.
In order to assume the management of Federal University Hospitals (HUFs), the assistance services provided by these institutions to society and their work capacity are carefully scaled to meet the regional needs and improve the economic and financial sustainability of these hospitals.
In recent years, there have been advances in the training of professionals and in the generation of knowledge for the health area, expanding the offer of residency and research at HUFs. Currently, the company offers more than 7,500 medical and multiprofessional residency vacancies in 959 programs, in addition to being a field of practice for more than 60,000 undergraduate students in the health field at 32 Federal Universities.
The HUFs are part of the SUS network and, with their incorporation into EBSERH, there was a clear movement to expand the offer of services to society, filling the care gaps and expanding their insertion in SUS with the coverage of demands sensitive to the system's local managers .
Affiliated hospitals
[edit]EBSERH is responsible for the management of 41 federal university hospitals. The universities have chosen to sign a contract with the state-owned company. From the university's manifestation for the hiring, through the approval of the University Council of the respective institution, the hospital's characterization process begins, with the dimensioning of the services and the need to hire personnel for the subsequent holding of the competition. audience .

Aurora (Finnish singer)
[edit]Aurora (real name Laura Julku b. 1985) is a Finnish singer-songwriter from Tampere who performs reggae and pop music. Aurora graduated from the Helsinki's Pop & Jazz Konservatorio in 2009.
2003-2012: The beginning of a music
[edit]Julku studied music at the Pop & Jazz Konservatorio in Helsinki. During her studies, Julku used the artist name Letjay. She was then involved in the Savusound ensemble and also published music on Mikseri.net. She also played the piano in The Beautiful Beast project.
Julku has also made English music both under her own name and as part of the Basspect project.
2013–: Adopting the name Aurora
[edit]Julku decided to adopt the Aurora artist name in 2013. Her debut single "Eilisen aurinko" (lit. 'Yesterday's sun') was released on February 21, 2014 through Sony Music. The second single “Se soi” (lit. 'it rings') was released on June 6, 2014. In early 2015, "Se soi” received a gold single certification in Finland. Julku's debut album under the Aurora name, "Kadotaan kaupunkiin" Lost in the City , produced by Sakke Aalto , was released in January 2015 and has crossed the gold record limit. The album was nominated for a 2015 pop album at the Emma Gala. Aurora was also nominated at the Emma Gala for the 2015 female soloist and in the public vote as the artist of the year.
The first new single from the debut album, "Kaikki mitä näät" “Everything You See,” was released on August 21, 2015. The song was the first single from Aurora’s second studio album, "Valtakunta" Kingdom , released in February 2017 . Before the release of the album, it had time to release five singles.
Soil in Canada
[edit]Soils in Canada are mostly young by global standards. Most of the country was covered by thick ice sheets during the last glacial maximum (around 15,000 years before present). With the recession of the ice sheets, glacial till is the source of many contemporary soils.
Classifying soils
[edit]Within Canada, soil scientists use a classification system developed in Canada and unique to it. Though there are commonalities with the World Reference Base for Soil Resources and USDA soil taxonomy systems, it was only intended to cover soils present in Canada and thus lack categories for very old or tropical climate soils. For engineering purposes, the AASHTO and USCS systems are used.
Much of Canada's land area is unsuitable for most human uses, though it also contains some very productive agricultural and forest regions.
The most productive soils for agriculture are the chernozems found in the prairie provinces and luvisols found in the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence region. However, climate may play a larger role in determining where agriculture is feasible.
Human history

Canada Land Inventory
[edit]An inventory of most land in Canada that has the potential to be settled. Land is rated from class 1 (best for agriculture) to 7 (least suitable).
