Syed Ameer Haider Abidi
[edit]Syed Ameer Haider Abidi (born 1940) is a Ugandan Researcher and Professor of Library and Information Science (LIS)[1] . He was the Director of the East African School of Library and Information Science previously referred to as, the East African School of Librarianship[2][3] at Makerere University from 1972-2002.[4]
Early life and education
[edit]Born in India, Abidi studied many courses between 1958 - 1967. He later went to England to pursue a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science [4]
Career
[edit]Abidi started working as a Librarian for Agra District in India, in 1960.[5] In 1970, while teaching library science at Aligarh Muslim University, Abidi applied for a position of Lecturer in Library and Information Science at Makerere University. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer, and later promoted to Director - East African School of Library and Information Science in 1972. [4]A position he held for 30 years.
He is the current Chairman of Kampala International University Council.[6] And he's also an author. [7]

[edit]Abidi has authored publications in several academic journals. They include:
- Local Relevance Factor in Syllabi for African Library and Information Training Schools.[2]
- Information Technology in the Universities of East Africa.[8]
- Library training programmes in East Africa: an evaluation.[9]
Family Life
[edit]Abidi is a Father of three children.
