Dave W. R. Hall

Dave W. R. Hall is a film director and producer. He started Handashake Inc. in 2008 as a production company. With help from J Randall of the band Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Kim Kelly of Cathartic PR, Hall formed Handshake Inc, the record label in 2011. Distributed by RED, the label is a vinyl and digital label only. Handshake Inc. is a metal music and film production company based out of London Ontario.
In 2012 Hall formed the music label Mutants of the Monster with “CT” Christopher Terry, the singer for Arkansas based band Rwake. The label’s first release is a split CD with Arkansas based Snakedriver and Nashville’s Laser Flames on the Great Big News.
Early Life, Career and Education
Hall worked for producer Kevin Tierney at Productions La Fête after graduating from Concordia in 1999. When Tierney left Productions La Fete to form Park Ex Pictures, Hall accompanied Tierney and worked for him for another year. In 2001 Hall was hired as director’s assistant to Oscar-nominated Lionel Chetwynd
In 2003 Hall formed a band called Lauderdale with guitarist Topon Das of Juno nominated band Fuck the Facts
In 2005 moved to London, Ontario – started working in post production as an editor and began teaching post production at Fanshawe College
Graduated with a BFA from Concordia University’s Film Production Program
Hall currently lives in London, Ontario with his wife and two children.

2006
Hall made his first independent feature film “The Romance is Dead” and first music video for Fuck the Fact’s song “The Sound of Your Smashed Head” – from the band’s first record for Relapse Records.
Ten minute short film entitled “High Street” that is included on the CD version of “Stigmata High Five” Fuck the Facts’ first album for Relapse Records.
2008
Made his first video for Today is the Day for the song “Free at Last” from the album “Axis of Eden.”
based on working relationship with Steve Austin from Today is the Day, Hall makes his second feature-length film – “Axis of Eden: The Feature Film,” a movie based on the album ‘Axis of Eden.’ The film contains visuals for every song on the album “Axis of Eden” plus intermediate scenes between each song. Hall accompanied Today is the Day on their North American “Axis of Eden: the Feature Film tour.” The band played live to the projected film.
Hall’s video for “IED” and “Free at Last” taken from the Axis of Eden film premiers on MTV’s “Headbangers Ball”.
2009
Hall Produced his 3rd feature length film “Disgorge Mexico” for Fuck the Facts’ 2nd album for Relapse Records. Later that year he produced his 4th feature length film, “Maryland Deathfest: The Movie,” a three hour concert film shot at Maryland Deathfest 7.
That same year Hall went to Winnipeg to film headlining seminal grind band Brutal Truth at the Manitoba Metal festival. The film is edited and pending release.
Hall filmed “The Executioniz Comes Tomorrow: Jucifer Live at Call the Office.” The film is one-part concert film, one part fiction film and features two Jucifer concerts as well as three hours of fiction. The film is still in production.
2010
Hall produced his 5th feature length film “Maryland Deathfest: The Movie II” a sequel to the first MDF film, shot at Maryland Deathfest 8.
Signed a distribution deal with Sony RED for the Maryland Deathfest films.
2011
What was originally supposed to be “Maryland Deathfest: The Movie III” is filmed at Maryland Deathfest 9…but half way through production, a hard-drive with most of the shot footage is stolen by a disgruntled crew member. Project shelved.
2012
Hall filmed Maryland Deathfest: The Movie III – at Maryland Deathfest 10. This will be the third and final film in the MDF film series, and is slated for 2013 release.
2013
In early 2013 Hall traveled to Philadelphia to film Decibel Magazine’s 100th issue show featuring Converge, Evoken, Pig Destroyer, Repulsion and Tombs. While in Philly, Hall directed his first short in ten years - “Unmanageable.” The script is written by Decibel Magazine’s managing editor and author Andrew Bonazelli.
Hall completed his 6th, feature length film: “A Stone, a Leaf, An Unfound Door: Rwake live at Maryland Deathfest X.” The film has its world premiere at the Little Rock Horror Picture Show, in Little Rock Arkansas and is slated for its European premiere at the Roadburn festival in Tillburg, Holland on April 20th.
On May 24th, 2013, Hall will release his 7th feature length film “Maryland Deathfest: The Movie III” a concert film shot at Maryland Deathfest, and the final film in the Maryland Deathfest Movie collection.
Discography
In 2013 Mutants of the Monster released its first vinyl – Jucifer’s “Nadir” the first material ever recorded by the band. The material dates back to 1994.
Also in 2013, Handshake Inc becomes the new home of influential grindcore band Gridlink and announces it will release their new album in winter of 2013

In 2012 Handshake Inc. entered the publishing realm with the release of “DTV” by Andrew Bonazelli[1] . “DTV” (Direct to Video) is a novel about two washed-up 90s action stars who find themselves thrown into some real-life drama for one last stand. The novel has an accompanying soundtrack, featuring bands like Atlas Moth, Wolvhammer and Early Graves performing covers of their favorite action movie theme songs.
In early 2013 Hall began working with Jason Netherton as a publisher for a work-in-progress book that will be a comprehensive, oral history of death metal.
