Three women, Dorothy (Mrs. F. Huntington) Babcock [Miss Doubleday], Margaret (Mrs. Daryl) Parshall and Miss Sally Behr (later Petite) form a needlework class in Mrs. Babcock’s New York City apartment. This is to be the nucleus of the American Branch, Embroiderers’ Guild of London.

Dorothy Doubleday Babcock Building – Dorothy Doubleday Babcock (1891 – 1964) was the daughter of book publisher Frank Nelson Doubleday (1862 - 1934). Her husband, F. Huntington Babcock, was a Doubleday director and vice-president of St. Luke’s Hospital.

Behr married Helen Monypeny Newsom on March 1, 1913 at the Church of the Transfiguration in New York City.

The couple had four children together: Karl H. Behr Jr. (1914–2002), Peter Howell Behr (1915–1997), James Howell Behr (1920–1976), and Sally Howell Behr bingo! (later Mrs. Samuel Leonard Pettit) (1928–1995).
